Will a 89 pick up truck ecu work in a 87 4runner?

I have a 89661-35070 it says 22R when i have a 22R-E in my 4runner and I keep getting a code 11. I pull the plug from the tps and it still gets the same problem.

I have a 89 toyota pick up 4wd with a part number 89661-35160

Will it cause any damage to the truck or ecu?

Not sure exactly, but there's a good chance it will work as long as the type of transmissions match, ie manual and a manual/automatic and automatic. I know that 87 ecu's work in 85's so you may be fine running an 89 in an 87. Here is a good link to search through:

I looked at that already, the pin matches up both 4wd and manual. I'll try it in a bit and report back.

this question comes up alot, while they may seem to work, what you have to watch out for is the fact the sensors on the motor are differen't. ie different resistances in the AFM, injectors etc etc.

here is a photo of the ECU part numbers from the 4crawler site that 89silverpu was referring to.

If the engine computer comes out of a manual or automatic, it makes no difference, the automatic transmission has its own seperate computer mounted below the radio in front of the shifter that controls the transmission.

by the looks of those part numbers it some years it does matter, it was my understanding the engine's ecu sends the signals to the trans computer as to what TPS and other signals are so the trans computer knows what to do.

They both work in either trucks. My code 11 is from something else the ecu is fine since I got the 87 4runner ecu to run on my truck 89.
