Will 8" spline 3rd member fit fit a '91 4Runner?

Found a seller with 4.88 gears. He's also selling an '85 straight axle so I'm assuming the 3rd member also came from an '85. My 4wd runner has the 3.0 slow, 5 speed w/4.10 stock gears. Is the 3rd member a "straight, no problems, nothing to worry about" bolt in to my truck? Is there anything I should be concerned with besides the fact that I cannot shift into 4wd? Thanks guys!

Yep, no problem. It's a 4cylinder third, so SLIGHTLY less strong than your V6 third, but IMHO not by enough to worry about.

I think 4cyl vs 6cyl isn't really an issue until you start talking about either a lot of power, or monster tires. I doubt the 3.0 is going to put out enough to break it. They use the same frontend.

Maybe...maybe not. Some V6 autos came from the factory with 4.88s.

Thanks for your responses guys. One of my concerns is that it's 20+ years old. Is that something to worry about? Also, was 4.88 available as stock?

Not on an '85. If it is in fact from an '85, it's been re-setup at some point.

Yeah 4.88's come with some 3.0 v6's. Mine had them stock. Only problem is IIRC if its a stock 4.88 third you can only fit factory toyota gears in these. I'd hold out for a 4.56 or 4.10 third (Our local pick and pull has a ton of these) unless you plan on staying with 4.88's. I had to get a 4.56 for my setup to fit the 5.29's. Otherwise it all will fit quite well. Toyota parts are quite interchangeable. Again others feel free to correct me if I am wrong.
