will 31's rub with ball joint lift up front?

I acquired a 93 4runner and I'd like to put a mild 2" lift on the truck. I have a locked 6" raised 88 Landcruiser for hard wheeling so the 4runner build is for basic dirt roads and camping.

I plan on running 2009 4runner coils in the rear from a friend for the rear 2" lift and I was looking at ball joints for the front. One manufacturer's website says a ball joint lift up front with stock wheels will cause tire rub when running stock tires. Is this true?

What is the most economical 2" lift for the front IFS axles?

Ball joint spacers and diff drop?

Vasinvictor,
I have read through that guide and I wanted confirmation about tire rubbing specifically from someone running 1.5" ball joint spacers.

Can you run stock rims and 31" tires without rubbing?

Planning on using this ball joint spacer kit:

And this diff drop/sway bar drop kit:

The 31's will fit without a lift. They can rub front mud flaps, but most of those aren't on for long. There is only a pinch weld bashing that may make them clear better. Mod the pinch weld if you do see any signs of clearance issues. You should be able to get a 33 x 10.5 to stuff in that fender. Wider tires have issues. Anything that fits, and is recommended for a stock width rim is usually minimal trouble. You don't need a spacer lift. Spacers may cause CV issues because of geometry. My truck is a 94 with 255/85r16, 34 x 10.5 on stock suspension. It does fine for getting around and not trying any mall crawling flex shots.

The 89-95 models came with an optional 31" tire on stock wheels from the factory. There are many stock 4.56 and 4.88 gear sets sitting in junk yards for this reason.

Paul,
Thank you for the info. I didn't know some runners came with different ring and pinion gears. I'll have to print out VIN info before I go to junk yards.

The stock rims, with 4.75" back spacing, may have the tire rub on the upper control arm, regardless of tire size. If I remember correctly, with a stock setup the upper control arm lip sits close to or a little below the inside edge of the rim, but with the 1.5" bj spacer, that lip will be moved up 1.5" and will likely rub on the tire.

I've been running 15x8 rims with 4" back spacing and bj spacers for close to 10 years now and never had an issue with rubbing; the stock wheels with 4.75" bs was a diffferent story (they'll rub after you get an alignment).
