My dad has a 1986 pickup with a 22re,it is a automatic transmission. it only has 117,000 miles on it, I have a 1993 pickup 5 speed 22re with almost 300,000 miles on it, he is 85 years old and not doing the best, we want to put his engine in my 93, will it bolt right up, what will it take, it would be really cool to have dad's heart in my truck!

It will "bolt right up" it will sit right in the motor mounts, bolt directly to the transmission, exhaust is compatible, "bolt up" wise your good, where you'll probably run into trouble is with electrical plugs, emitions, etc. So you would want to take your 93 intake and bolt it to the older block, that would be the easiest route, there aren't many differences but there are some, you could swap over many parts as far as fuel injectors and sensors but you should test them all, they may have a lot less miles on them but they're 31 years old so may be crap.

The easy way is to swap your engine harness onto the 86 engine

Everything electrical the Injectors all the sensors

Going from Auto to manual don`t forget the pilot shaft bearing if the engine is out time for a new clutch


These are both older engines the plastic connectors tend to get brittle

Not sure just how much money is in the budget but it might be good to have the starter and alternator rebuilt if you still have the Denso originals much better then most so called rebuilt units today
