Inner diameter of the TB is the same, it's just straight instead of angled downward. The intake is slightly different to accept the slightly different TB.

The main reason to do this mod is the cold idle up. It ditches the AAV or IACV which is supposed to idle the car up when cold. The AAV in 88 and earlier is mechanical AND electrical, which the electrical part is prone to failure. As well the whole unit is just wonky. The newer TB has this integrated as part of a full mechanical system. They are much more reliable and require zero adjustment.

I am not sure if the newer TB has any performance increase, perhaps it does because it is straight. But I think it might be placebo, not really sure. If your cold idle up works as is, no reason to mess with it I suppose. My AAV was trashed and that's why I upgraded. Even after I took it apart and tried to adjust it myself, still no dice.

The newer TB works perfectly

Just rebuilt it for the second time. It's had a hard life. I drive it like I stole it. I guess I'll build it again at 750,000 and shoot for that million mark!

It's been from Georgia to Washington and back. Other than the engine, everything is stock and the only thing that has been rebuilt is the transmission.

Wouldn't trade this thing for the world!!
