Thumbs down White smoke...

I bought my pickup while i was out in cali last year. I got it with a blown rod and bought a new long block from a shop in arcata. I drove it back to ma a few months ago and it has driven pretty well ever since. i would say i have put on 10-15k on the new motor. (my speedo is not calibrated) i started it at work friday, and it started smoking coolant like a bastard. Today i did a compression test and got 175 across all 4 cylinders, so i replaced the intake gasket and she is still smoking. Im thinking my head is cracked... anyone have any thoughts. this blows, literaly

are you losing coolant at all? I live in mass and mine blows smoke in the morning when it's cold. Runs fine when warm and I don't lose coolant. That white smoke could just be condensation, do you live by the water?

Check your coolant see if the level is going down drastically. Check your oil is it milky looking? If theres any white in ur oil then um you may have a possible headgasket. How cold is it where you are at? If its bellow 50 then yes in the mornings the hot exhaust pipe is going to burn off the moister collected over night in the exhaust thus causing white smoke.... if your compression is that solid all round your head prolly is not cracked. Check more.

x2 on the condensation...have you done a coolant leak down test with engine warm and plugs removed watching for any signs of steam coming from a plug hole, then you may have a bad gasket.....what does your engine oil look like?.....can you smell antifreeze coming out the exhaust?....
try this..... after the engine has sat all night, in the morning remove the radiator cap and then start the engine go back to the radiator and see if you see any air fizzy bubbles coming to the water surface...if so you may have a blown head gasket ...hope this helps

Did you skimp out on the headgasket in the rebuild? Or who ever did the build may have not tightened the bolts correctly or enough causing warpage of head and gasket failure and possible cracking.... Is there a warranty on the motor? I'd take it back and say, "Hey this dam thing ain't got but 13k miles and its burning coolant, your going to fix it."

i should have had built it myself but i did not have many tools where i did the swap, so i bought it instead. It had a year 12k mile warranty, i bought it 18 months ago

Yeah that sucks that you bought it in arcata since Humboldt's pretty far from here, if you lived near there you could take it back.

I used to live in southern humboldt and mendocino most people I knew bought engines from places in the bay area, as I remember there were a few places...I believe Attarco and ATK were pretty decent.

Well looks like that warranty was perfect. Blew the headgasket at just about the end of warranty time...... but..... If there is a blow gasket the compression should be a bit diff..... you said #3 cyl is burning coolant? Are you sure all the compression is the same? Its hard to guess the issue..... It could have a cracked head.... cracked block along cyl wall or blown headgasket....... If you wanna fix it you can try and toss a new head gasket on and see if it quits......... Don't get a cheap on though get it from OEM Toyota.
