Where to mount shocks on axle?

Well I'm getting ready to do the Chevy Spring Swap and was wondering what you guys did for the shocks. Where did you put the lower shock mount at? Some pics would be nice. I'm buying the Sky Kit. I want to leave the top mount in the current position for now.


Also where can I get some axle shims? ( degree shims)

I have Billies and I put the lower shock mount on top of the axle with the top at the stock location.





I don't like shims and didn't want to use them so I rotated my axle and perches accordingly.

The closer you get them to the spring pack the better.

I currently have the Sky kit and feel the angle of the shocks gives we a lot of body sway. I'll be moving them closer to the spring pack and like this || over the weekend.

Shims, I'd get steel if you have to... but agree with WabFab, perch rotation is best.

Hey thanks alot, you just saved my 60$ on a uppper shock mount from Sky.
I rember reading somewhere that the stock uppper mounts wen't located well. A shock in front and one behind really hurt flex?

I was going to ask this on pirate but you all are so much nicer over here.

I am not sure if the stock location will hurt flex... depends more on the length of shock travel. I have a friend who has the stock setup (one to the front, one to the back but like this ||) and his rig works very well.

That said, if your main concern is flex, with little regard to road manners, / \ will probably be closer to what you need. Shocks angled towards the middle have about a 40% less effective rate of dampening, springs move easier. Angled can also allow for longer shocks to fit under your vehicle... so more travel, more flex.

Guess it depends on the ultimate goal you have for the vehicle. I am looking for as much flex as possible, but am going to swap my shock position to this || as I think it will work better overall and have found a way to fit the same length shocks underneath so I won't loose much (if any) wheel travel.

wabfab has the best - easiest setup.

If you relocated the the drivers side shock exactly how it is on the pass side you'd be setup real good.

I wont go into detail as to why, apparently im completely wrong in my knowledge of how shocks work.

WabFab... you got any pictures of how the upper links are attached to your rig?

What lift springs... and what length shocks did you manage to stuff under there?

Upper links...if you mean shocks, they are attached to the stock location at the top. Driver towards the front, passenger towards the rear.

I have 5" All Pro leaf springs (all that existed practically at the time) front and rear with 12" Billies up front and 10" Billies in the rear...and a partridge in a pear tree.

(I am posting at 4 *&$*@ in the morning cause the home security system work they did yesterday decided to freaking stop working about 15 minutes ago. Somebody is going to get a good arse chewing out about 8 a.m. CST at the ADT office)
