Where to buy new engine from??
Well I was changing my oil the other day and I spotted many shiny metallic objects in the drain pan...METAL SHAVINGS!! I seriously almost started crying!!! It runs fine, knocks a little at startup untill oil is warm, but nothing serious.
My 22RE didnt last as long as it was suppost to!!! Only 147k miles!!! Damn previous owners never changing the oil. (but the truck was and is virtually rust free, unlike other texas trucks I know rhymes with Yord)
My question to you all is:
What would you do in my situation?
I will not be selling the truck, as I love it to death and have so much fun in it! But I can see in the future a new engine.
Now I am going to school for automotive/diesel repair, so getting it done is not a problem. I would rebuild it myself but I am afraid that I am going to get side-tracked and forget what goes where (emissions crap, and electrical) , or I am going to forget about the truck completely.
In your honest opinion who makes the best crate engine...??
Jasper, ebay, LCEngineering, Etc.?
All I am going to want done to it is maybe a cam or some mild performance mods!
Thanks

They have the short block 3vze and long block 3vze, pretty cheap than I have seen.

If it runs fine, then why not save your money? I mean really save it, so that when it doesn't run fine, then you have some dough and options.
Back on topic, how about a 1KZ-TE?

I was thinking about the diesel swap, but if something goes wrong with the engine, imaging how long it would take to get a part for it!!
And it runs perfect, you could balance a dime on the valve-cover. It just didnt last as long as it was suppost to!!
LCE is too expensive!! I have heard good things about jasper though!

If you are going to school to be a mechanic, you probably have some pretty good resources to lean on. I would rebuild it myself. You can save some money and have a nice motor when you're done. You can REALLY save some money if your school has a machine shop in house too. These engines are relatively easy to work on.
The electrical connections for the most part are designed to go in one place and one place only so it is hard to connect them incorrectly. Remembering where they all go is another thing altogether. I used white electrical tape and a Sharpie to label everything so I couldn't forget where they go. Take plenty of pictures with a digital camera for reference as well. And as a last resort, you can always take a trip to a salvage yard to see where something goes.
Get a copy of the service manual. They have every spec you will need.
Engnbldr.com not only has some very good quality parts but they have master rebuild kits that include everything you need and then some. Plus, Ted there is a great resource when it comes to Toyota knowledge. You won't be dissapointed.
Good luck.

I reccomend engnbldr.com - I just bought a full gasket kit from him and they are super nice and they answered all my questions. I would have bought from them even if they were more expensive.

Metal shavings don't seem to be a good thing....BUT consider this, my '92 civic hatch I had before that ran perfect always, ALWAYS had metal shavings in the oil that came out....still ran awesome and but then sold it with 230000km on it to buy my '91 Toy. Buddy has over 300000kms on it now, drives the piss out of it and recently just got it turbo'd on that same engine no mods to it, just slapped it on. My point is that don't get too freaked out right away and like you said just drive it till she goes...it should last....if a civic can then surely the 22RE can with some shavings, just keep on the changes, maybe do a compression check for piece of mine.
