whats a 22rec

hello i have a question what is the difference between a 22re and a 22rec motor and what is the c for i am asking this because when i go to any parts store i am asked if it is a 22rec.

i believe its the 22re with more emissions related items on it

Yeah, that is the california emissions version of the 22re. There are some write-ups around for removing all the excess crap.

'85 4runner: 4.7's, FoxFab sliders, custom bumpers, 1" body lift, F-150 springs rear, lockright, welded third, IFS rear axle, 1.5" wheel spacers, high-steer, rears up front, Longs, 38" SX's on steelies, 12Voltguy dual battery, soft top, BMW seats. NO LONGER lacking an engine. :D :D

there really isn't any difference mechanically, just probably a few other cali emisisons add-ons.

Its just the emmisions, just like everone else said, IMO they arent as peppy as regular, yes i know i have a 22re now and my 85 was a 22rec. Same miles, and no mods.

well, also take into account that the intake was redesigned into a better breathing setup in '89. toyota switched to a straight mounted throttle body rather than the angled one that had a hose that went down and back up.
