My waterpump was making groaning noises so I assumed it was bad.

I replaced it and my old waterpump looked fine. I put the new waterpump in and it still is making a groaning noise at startup.

I also recently have been having overheating issues if I don't let my vehicle warm up enough before I get on the highway. It's like hte coolant doesn't start flowing fast enough.. ... It seems my vehicle takes a really long time to warm up also.

I thought maybe I had some blockage that was preventing the hot water from flowing to the thermostat... Or maybe I have an airlock in my cooling system?

I'm not sure, what would cause my new waterpump to groan? I also have been getting poor fuel economy... I was thinking maybe my water temp sensor was reading wrong or getting air? I haven't had a chance to test what my sensor is reading yet...

the belt is perhaps too tight? Or too loose?

just guessing. Yes the 22re motors are somewhat notorious for an air bubble trapped inside.

I have somewhat of an ass end rake on my truck... I was wondering if that might cause my radiator not to purge air at all... I tried to do my best to purge air when I changed my pump... I parked on my large car ramps and ran my vehicle for a long time.... I took a long time for the thermostat to open to finish adding coolant, it seemed way too long...

The thermostat was replaced at the same time as the water pump and I believe I tested...

ha, I never joke about my truck.

I was talking to a friend and he has the same problem with his temperature guage.

Sounds like this problem...

I had an aftermarket thermostat in before and it never had this problem. The current one is from toyota. They didn't have the dual valve thermostat in stock and they wanted something like $70 for it instead of $20.

So this is probably my temp guage issue. I never hit red, but before I would never go above halfway so I was worried.

How would a thermostat being in backwards make my waterpump groan?

My belts look right. It only groans at warmup...

Are you certain it's the water pump making the noise? I find it hard sometimes to know what's making the noise if it's in the front of the motor. Especially if you replaced the pump and it's still making the noise, sounds like it might be something else. Mechanics stethoscopes are very helpful in tracking down the source of noises.

it was my distributor... It was pretty hard to hear where it was coming from even w/ the mechanics stethoscope. The rotor was making slight contact to contacts on the cap...

thanks for letting us know-so the rotor should not actually touch the distributor contact points? It should just pass extremely close to them without actually touching them?
