Specifically for your pre-'95 Toyota? (so mods, please don't move)
I swear you could fix most things on this truck with a Leatherman. Toyota seriously engineered these trucks with ease-of-repair in mind.



I carry along whenever I go exploring down old logging roads on my own or fish:

1. sockets 10mm, 12mm, 14mm, and 17mm
2. deep-well 14mm socket
3. 3" and 10"? extensions
4. box wrenches in the above listed sizes
5. short Philips screwdriver
6. vise grips
7. test light
8. spark plug socket
9. WD40
10. Leatherman Charge TTi and headlight (the most useful two of the lot)
11. a couple rags
12. grease soap
13. electrical tape

I have been meaning to add a tire repair kit to that list. Rocks work pretty well as hammers, but only used them a couple times.

I recently got on-board air, so I may add some air tools as well.

i agree they are amazingly easy to wrench on anywhere any time with any tool i love it

Keep in mind alot of this stuff I dont keep in my truck 24/7. I have a bag in my garage that i keep packed with my trail tools. Some of em dont take up a whole lot of room. Like my ropes and muffler clamps, I wrap my rope lengths around my roll bar as well as I clamp my muffler clamps around it too.

I try to utilize dead space for tool storage as much as possible. Under seats, under hood, access panels where the stock jack went and the rear washer fluid res. is.

An all metric craftsman's tool box currently and a tire plug kit in the glove box.

I have a set of caddy compressors hooked together with a air line and inflator.
I usually have a 750amp jump pack with me.
I also have a 1000 watt ac inverter that can run either my sawzall or my drill or the angle grinder.

I carry all the common metric tools and pliers so I won't list them all. I will just list the things others might not have but are a good idea...

-A binder with photo copies of various FSM pages for on the road diagnosis.
-A few paper clips for the ECU trouble codes. (I actually used this when my O2 sensor failed on the way home from work. So I was able to stop by the dealer on the way home to get a new sensor.
-Spare drive belts. (keep your old ones as spares if they aren't broken, at least have the water pump/alternator belt as a spare)
-Spare thermostat.
-Spare alternator brushes pre-solder into holder.
-Spare radiator cap.
-Extra wiring and splices. (wiring diagram copies also)
-Multimeter.
-Spare bulbs for taillights and turn signals.

Alright I guess most of my list is not tools but spare parts. I just think they are a good idea to carry, and they don't take a lot of space. I have all this stuff behing the seat of my pickup.

Since i'm a carpenter, I have currently a drill, circular saw, A ratchet set with every single size known to man, a hand saw, hammers, screwdrivers, a chainsaw, an ax. I also have a Trail Kit, that has flares, flashlight, foil blanket, and fireproof blanket, First aid kit that has enough crap to build a hospital in the middle of the woods, and of course a extra pack of cigarettes in case the emergency is for more than an hour.

164(?) piece craftsman tool kit, duck tape, flare gun w/flares, straps, maglite w/ batteries, (very small) spool of wire, misc. screwdriver set, zip ties, first aid, ect.

Just relized how much i have in it. Hope i wont have to use any of it (knock on wood). I think my next purchase is going to be a fire extinguisher

about 5 months ago, too much...





yep, 2 tool boxes full of random tools (WAY too many to list, but it includes the standards and a bunch of one-use specialty tools), little box with some fluids and sealants in it, floor jack, jumper cables, move than enough H2O and rad fluid, couple sets of wrenches, air compressor, lights, bunjies, air horns, straps, and even a sleeping blanket (you never know).


When I installed my second battery, just about all this got taken out though. Now I just have the little box in there with the essentials like 2 ratchets, 2 metric socket sets (one shallow and one deep), a couple extentions, a set of wrenches, pliers (standard and needle-nose), some vice grips, a couple little LED flash-lights, zip ties, a few of both phillips and flat head screw drivers, an extendable magnet thingy, buch of rags, still have a bottle of H2O and antifreeze, and keep at least a quart of oil, and a bit of both ATF and brake fluid handy too.

I just moved out of an apartment into an actual house with a garage now, so I can keep my tools in there now finnaly!

I haven't ever got into a situation where I direly needed the tools I carry, but it gives me peace of mind driving around in a truck that's about to roll over 300k.

Plus, now every time I hit the trails, I always have the chance to get free beer; it seems like I'm always the one someone calls when they get stuck on the trail, so I go and help them out and get a favor in return!

Also in my glovebox is my best tool my leathermen.
