What is that sound?

1987 4runner stock. Passenger side front loud rubbing sound and vibration only when hubs are locked in. Any ideas. Need to be repacked, replaced?

Do you have manual hubs or the Automatic hubs?

You might want to pull them off and rebuild them.

as you stated "only when hubs are locked" im assuming that these are manual hubs, i would check fluid level in front diff, check the u joints for exccesive wear(then regrease),and then check for wear in the CV. These are in no order of what might be the problem, just starting with the easy fixes first. Good luck

crap, I totally missed that. Sorry, long day

I would pull the hub faces and take a peak. If its been awhile I would pull them and rebuild them. Then take a good look at the cv-joints for possible tears in the boots or excessive wear. Like mentioned, check the diff fluid. If its been long I would change it and put some nice fresh lube in.

Thank you for the quick response!

I guess I'll start asking buddies to help me do this. I'm assuming that you can buy rebuild kits for the hubs fairly easy?
