What size gears for 86 4wd pickup?

Is there anyway to tell what size I need to order (7.5, 8"?) I have a stock 4 cyl 86 toyota pickup with 305/70/16's on it. (Automatic tranny, street use mostly) I have been told to go with 5.29 gears, is this too drastic? Recent rebuild, but it is very slow getting to 40 mph. Once there or above it is fine, just getting there is the problem. Before I dump the cash, would this help my cause? Thank you

7.5" front and 8" rear. All toyota trucks, 4runners from 86-95 use the same gears EXCEPT for 4Runners and or Trucks that use 4.88 from the factory, those are special gears only for those trucks.

You need 5.29 gears, your auto is slow to shift and you lack power, dropping down a tire size will help and you can run 4.88's then, but for now 5.29.

Your rear is an 8".....front is 7.5.
You have the auto so you probably already have 4.30 gears. 529 is a good choice for a 22RE with auto with 33x12.50 tires like yours. For what it's worth, my 87 Runner with 22RE/auto/33x10.50tires had 571 gears that I installed. I liked my choice. A little revy on the highway....3400 rpm at 75 real mph....but it had no problem getting there or maintaining it. Doing it again, I'd do the 571 gears. Offroad, pulling power was great....never stalled due to gearing.
529 is ok too.

Thank you both! Would anyone trust the $130 sets on Ebay?

No, i would buy a trusted brand like Yukon or a similar gear manufacterer. Do some research on Marlin Crawler, Trail Gear, or Allpro offroad to see what is the best quality. Gears is something you DONT want to skimp on.
