What should I do

Been reading on here a long time, but just signed up.
Allright. Trying to decide my best option. I have a 93 reg cab pu 4x4 that was my everyday driver for past 4 years 22re that's lost some power but runs good.
Yesterday I ran across the truck I've always wanted at a steel, and bought it 95 extra cab 4x4 great interior good body 270k on the 3 liter, and it sounds ruff, I havnt got into it yet but def going to I think. Valves are def making noise but pretty sure it's more. (I did drive it home 80 miles with no problem) I want to make the extra cab a nice every day driver, and my question is what to do. Prolly gonna sale reg cab to cover cost (1500-2000$)
1.rebuild 3.0
2. Find a swap
3. Rebuild my 22re and slide in
4. 3.4 conversion
thanks in advance for any input!

Red face

Being your new Welcome !!

Let us know where you live.

First question are you able to do all this work ??

Paying Labor gets real expensive fast .

Leaving out the Engine Machine Work ETC!!

Just what would you want to do after all it is your truck and $$$$

Myself before even thinking about the engine I would bring the rest of the truck up to my standards being then ready for the new engine

Steering, Suspension and Brakes I am sure at 270,000 miles it is ready

If your even thinking about the 22REC engine swap you may as well just go 3.4 and be done costs and work would be around the same depending on just how you do things.

This is only if you can do the wrenching yourself.

3.4 swap with toy only swaps or off road solutions harness.

Bolt in/plug in.

Pass on the 22re swap. Motor mounts are different and would need to swap the harness. Not an easy job. I would stay with the 3.0 just because I have not done the 3.4 swap. If you are comfortable with swapping motors I would do the 3.4. If you are having any work doen by a mechanic, cost are going to soar.

Between me and my friends in chelsea alabama we can handle the labor, besides machine work. As far as other stuff like brakes and steering and stuff, I don't fix stuff until it breaks. Here is pics of 2 trucks.

I don't have but 550$ in new truck, so I want to make it a really nice everyday driver( and can afford to put all $ I get out of reg cab into it) that I will pull a 17 foot bass tracker with occasionally. possibly put a straight in the front too.

If you are considering the "3.4 swap," here's the write up from ORS:
http://www.offroadsolutions.com/tech...fe-conversion/

I wouldn't call that "bolt in/plug in," but everyone is comfortable with a different level of complexity.

Toy only swaps will sell harness or complete kit, off-road solutions will sell harness or kit minus engine. That is an adapter harness from engine harness to dash harness.
That's if you don't want to do the wiring yourself
I'm recommending a 3.4 swap.
not that the 3.0 is a bad engine it's just that the 3.4 is a better one, more power and torque, and they usually last a long time.

Plus you can supercharge or turbo it if you want more power

Research the engine swap section to see which way you want to go.
you could even go Lexus V8, but the 3.4 is easier with all the info on yotatech

Thanks for everyone's input, I found a rolled, but running 2002 3.4 4runner with 110k miles for 750, and I'm gonna buy it and make the swap. Found some 4.3 chevys cheaper but think I would rather have the yota. I'm thinking all I'm gonna need is the runner, and buy a harness.

Good buy on the runner, all the information needed in the engine swap section.

Good luck and keep us posted.

I thought so too donomite14, so I take it your happy with your swap? Do it yourself, and go pretty smooth?

Happy with the 3.4 love it.

I went from a 22re to the v6 so it was a lot more involved. Motor mounts have to be relocated that you don't have to do with a 3.0 to 3.4 swap.

Double the HP makes it a totally different truck.

Did everything myself, so satisfying to drive it and cool to surprise people and hear/see the "that truck is fast" comment/ reaction.

Went smooth for me, yotatech made it easier. Took a couple months, but I went over and above.

Link to video in my sig.

That is sharp feral off road, and as is yours donomite14 . I bought that extra cab 1995 a few weeks ago for 500 bucks, cuz it had some motor noise, but I drove it home and parked it. Decided to put some heavy oil in it, and good filter, and drive it till she blows! Well... been driving the hell out of it, and if anything the knock has got better even put some mud tires, and wheels I had laying around on it, and I love it. I kind of want it to go ahead and blow so I can put the 3.4, and a straight axel!
