what is required for 33's?
did a couple searches and didn't come up with anything. on our years of truck, what do ya gotta do to get 33's to fit and function off-road without rub? speaking in terms of above and beyond a dead stock 4x4, of course. curious cause, well...come on, 33's are way the hell cooler than 31's, right?

I doubt your 3.0 will agree.

funny you should mention that. i had a talk with it the other day. i told it to pack it's crap and get the hell out. my new lover, the 3.4 from a 97 taco that's sitting on my engine stand in the garage is ready to move in.
but thanks for the warning, cause that would suck if i tried to run them with the 3.slow, but i'm gonna totally gut this thing when i do the taco conversion. i'm gonna tear out the carpet and do a rhino lining or similar style coating, put new suspension on the rear, and some new stuff on the front, etc... so if i'm gonna go through the trouble of doing a bunch of suspension stuff, i'd hate to do ALMOST enough to allow me to upgrade to 33's.

Technically, the answer to your question is:
mount them on the stock rims and bolt them on. The key factor is going with 33x10.50 instead of the wider ones. I run Dunlop Radial Rover RVXT 33x10.50-15 with NO rubbing AT ALL.
To fit 33x12.50, you're looking for about 3" lift wth 3.75" BS IIRC

I ran 32x10.50 Swampers on my junk stock, and they measue only about 1/4" shorter than a BFG 33x10.50.

wow, good stuff. that kinda makes me wonder if they look funny, though. being so tall and not so wide? and raises another thought in my noggin... do you need to do anything to fit 32x11.50's?

Yeah, I think they look pretty good ... now the 34x9.50 TSL's looked a lttle narrow...
An interesting article on the traction benefits of tall/skinny offroad:

Here's 33x10.50 on my '934Runner with no lift

33x12.5's on 15x8 rims 3.75" backspacing with BJ spacers, slight rubbing on full compression while turning, especially now that I have low pro compression bumpstops. (getting a 1" body lift soon to alleviate that)

*chuckle*...slight modifications... if the mods are worth more than the reasonable street value of the unmodded vehicle... i don't think you are allowed to refer to them as 'slight'. but yeah, thanks for the pics, guys. much appreciated. totally helps make the decision process easier.

I haven't read the article but in the local mud bog races when I was in school the skinny tires went through the muck much farther than the wide tire trucks & the skinny tires did fine in the rocks & snow as well. The only benefit from the wide tires over the skinny tires was on semi solid loose material like sand, that's where they shined; the skinny tires dug in & bottomed out the diffs really quick; especially with novice drivers who got too deep into the skinny pedal. Everyone knows, or should know, the taller the tire, the more lift your diff gets off the ground, which is the only way to lift a diff.
That's what I have experienced first hand, now off to read the article!

I've got 5 BFG A/Ts, 33x10.50 mounted on stock Toyota alloys with about 65% tread left I'll sell you for $800 + shipping. Pretty good shape, I ran them for a while with no lift and they rubbed ever so slightly on the lower valence (which would probably go away with a few turns of the torsion bars).
It's a long shot but I figured I'd mention it...

just to throw something in here real quick, u guys keep sayin, just put em in, they will fit, but i rly cant see my 94' pu fitting anywhere close to 33's stock. im running like 26 inches on my truck right now, and iv got some room, but the highest i feel safe goin to is the 29 bfg at's, and thats gonig to be with like an inch in front and back. am i just crazy?
