funny you should mention that. i had a talk with it the other day. i told it to pack it's crap and get the hell out. my new lover, the 3.4 from a 97 taco that's sitting on my engine stand in the garage is ready to move in.
but thanks for the warning, cause that would suck if i tried to run them with the 3.slow, but i'm gonna totally gut this thing when i do the taco conversion. i'm gonna tear out the carpet and do a rhino lining or similar style coating, put new suspension on the rear, and some new stuff on the front, etc... so if i'm gonna go through the trouble of doing a bunch of suspension stuff, i'd hate to do ALMOST enough to allow me to upgrade to 33's.

Technically, the answer to your question is:
mount them on the stock rims and bolt them on. The key factor is going with 33x10.50 instead of the wider ones. I run Dunlop Radial Rover RVXT 33x10.50-15 with NO rubbing AT ALL. To fit 33x12.50, you're looking for about 3" lift wth 3.75" BS IIRC

wow, good stuff. that kinda makes me wonder if they look funny, though. being so tall and not so wide? and raises another thought in my noggin... do you need to do anything to fit 32x11.50's?

Yeah, I think they look pretty good ... now the 34x9.50 TSL's looked a lttle narrow...
An interesting article on the traction benefits of tall/skinny offroad: http://www.expeditionswest.com/resea...tion_rev1.html Here's 33x10.50 on my '934Runner with no lift

Oh - and you can fit 32x11.50 too, but why? The only way to get ground clearance under the diff is with taller tires....

33x12.5's on 15x8 rims 3.75" backspacing with BJ spacers, slight rubbing on full compression while turning, especially now that I have low pro compression bumpstops. (getting a 1" body lift soon to alleviate that)

*chuckle*...slight modifications... if the mods are worth more than the reasonable street value of the unmodded vehicle... i don't think you are allowed to refer to them as 'slight'. but yeah, thanks for the pics, guys. much appreciated. totally helps make the decision process easier.

I haven't read the article but in the local mud bog races when I was in school the skinny tires went through the muck much farther than the wide tire trucks & the skinny tires did fine in the rocks & snow as well. The only benefit from the wide tires over the skinny tires was on semi solid loose material like sand, that's where they shined; the skinny tires dug in & bottomed out the diffs really quick; especially with novice drivers who got too deep into the skinny pedal. Everyone knows, or should know, the taller the tire, the more lift your diff gets off the ground, which is the only way to lift a diff.
That's what I have experienced first hand, now off to read the article!

I've got 5 BFG A/Ts, 33x10.50 mounted on stock Toyota alloys with about 65% tread left I'll sell you for $800 + shipping. Pretty good shape, I ran them for a while with no lift and they rubbed ever so slightly on the lower valence (which would probably go away with a few turns of the torsion bars).
It's a long shot but I figured I'd mention it...

I agree with 33x10.50s on a stock suspension. I'm probably going to run them even when SAS my truck. I just really like the size.

I am sure that most people are referring to fitting those tires on a 4x4. But I guess you know that.

Costco wouldn't sell me 33 x 10.5. They only sell what the vehicle had from the factory so I had to get 31's boooo.
33x10.5 is next. I really liked the Expeditions west article. I want to set my truck up like that (expedition style)

I think I could fit 33's =) Dunno tho, I had some slight rubbing with these 31's before the 1.5" balljoint spacers (2" body lift). But my IFS is tweaked and bent and just plain messed up (accident, pass side). We'll see Im still hunting for a new straight frame. Have one lined up so stay tuned for a frame-up yota build =)
I have 31x10.5r15 Dunlop Mud Rovers right now on 15x8 wheels with I either 3.5" or 3.75" backspacing (forget) Unless I was running 35's (12.5" wide) 10.5" tread width is perfect, tho 33x10.5's are a rare size and not many tires come that size! ![]() It has 1.5" BJ spacers, 2" rear lift shackles (I think they're 3" overstock?... 5" would of been better) and a 2" body lift (body lift is so pass side torsion bar fits!!!!!!)
