What is this part? Brake related?

My left rear wheel started making a horrible metal on metal grinding noise after briefly parking on a hill, engaging the parking brake, releasing it, and driving off. It made the noise for about a mile while I drove home.

When I went back out to try and figure out what was wrong it did not make the noise until I put on the parking brake again (and released it, still made noise with the brake off). I drove around the block, and it stopped as this little part fell onto the road.

Any idea what it is? Where it goes? It did not seem to match any of the rear brake parts in the FSM diagram (4WD). Thanks!

looks like a drum weight - used to balance the rear drums

see it at the 6 o'clock position in this pic?

Dude, I've been looking for that thing since 1967. Thanx for finding it.......

(oh yeah, it's definitely a wheel drum weight. It should get tack welded back on----unless you're buying new drums)

Thanks corax, that would make sense. I will pull the wheel off and see if I can see the spot where it came off. Think I could stick it back on with JB weld?

And thanks Nimyad, I was hoping that thing I found in my pocket was worth something, maybe even $.05

Hmmm, maybe. But you'd really have to scrape and brush and clean the dog poop out of both areas, and then let it marinate/set-up/dry for a day or three. Might just be easier to go down to your local olde skool brake mechanic shop and have them weld it back on correctly......
