What Motor???
I have a chance to get a 1989 Tacoma what motor is stanard for a 4 cylinder of that year? And is it any stronger than my 1985 22RE?

For the 1989 toyota PICKUP, standard 4 cyl engines were.

The 22re changed after 85, got a little more powerfull.
Just incase.. the 1999 Tacoma 4cyl is a 2.7L with 150hp and 180some odd ftlbs of torque ( nearly the same as the 3vze v6 found in 1988-95 pickups and 4runners).

i'm guessing you meant 89 p/u because you are comparing it to an 85 22re.
the standard motor is the same one, so it will probably be the same or marginally better.
