It would probly cost more to put a T/C on that tranny than to find the correct one.

W Series 2wd truck transmission, from a 4cly engine. Cheaper to start with a 4wd transmission than to convert.

It is a 1985. The 22-re trucks and Celicas used the same trans just different gear ratios.

Even if i already have a w56 out of a 4wd with no good gears? is it only the extension housing that would have to be changed over to a transfer adapter or is there more to it than that? its basically what i would like to know

Oh, didn't check all of the posts

The W 2wd and 4wd transmissions are the same, just with a different rear housing. Although the actual gear ratios may be slightly different.

If you already have a good extension housing gathering dust, by all means use it on the 2wd transmission.

Pull the clutch off, and snap me a picture of the front bearing retainer and I'll confirm if it's a G or W series.

I just don't know about the G series, never bothered to repair one. I'd be interested in knowing though if you do go the G route, good luck.

well so far its going ok.. all the gears are going to have to be switched over from the 2wd output shaft to the 4wd output shaft since most gears on the 4wd shaft were ground to nothing and of course it has to be diffrent gear sets so this is going to take me a little but of time for my first rebuild. but the extension housing off and putting the transfer adapter on it all bolts up so thats a good sign.. just to get all the internals switched from one shaft to the other and put back together.. i will post some pics later on
