What / how to clean the inside of bell housing & back of motor?

Hello,
I am doing a clutch job on a 4Runner and while waiting for the parts & flywheel resurfacing I want to clean up the tranny, T-case, inside bell housing and back of motor before I replace the RMS. It is a real mess, see here: https://www.yotatech.com/forums/f116...h-disk-119930/
Just wondering other than the top of the tranny where the shifter & T-case selectors go, is there anywhere that I shouldn?t get water? And what about under the truck too? I am planning on soaking everything with simple green and or Engine cleaner and hosing it all down and doing a little scrubbing too? Is that safe to do? If not, any suggestions on how to clean it all up? I?d like to have the thing all cleaned up for reinstallation ease and the inside of the bell housing so it doesn?t contaminate the new clutch disc etc. And the back of the motor for when I do the RMS.

Thanks,
biGjOhn

You need these stuff,

Spray were you want it at then wait for 10 or more minute, then power wash away, it should be clean as it should appear there...

These super clean are the best, they eat up dirt like nothing, they acted as some acid like formula so read all the warning on the back of it. Do you have your tranny out or hanging in there? I would cover those shifter or seal them in place then spray it all over were you need it at, if you have it out then just put your shifter back in its place then spray it were you want it at. When I did mine I accidently got water in the t-case so I have to use cheap gear oil to flush it all out until I can see no water.

super clean is the best when it comes to cleaning dirt and grime from metal/plastic...just let the pictures do the talking.

edit: if you want the same thing for cheaper, get purple power in a 2.5gal jug and use a spray bottle.

after

That stuff works great! Just a word to the wise, it will take paint off of valve covers. I let it still for 10 minutes on my Acura Integra valve cover and it took the black off of the cover in spots. I usually only let it sit for a couple of minutes and then rinse with lots of water.

The purple Castrol stuff works great, but just so you are aware it's supposedly not good for aluminum. I use it just the same, but just make sure to rinse well. Here's what my bellhousing looked like after I cleaned it with Super Clean.

Ok, so I found the same stuff, just packaged a little differently out here on the Left Coast? Worked great, thanks for the TIP! I also used it on the stock painted steel rims and then pressure washed them to strip the paint off and it worked pretty well! Got 90% of the paint off with one app and the pressure washer. Then sprayed them up with some Hammered finish silver, looks much better!

Here are some Before & after pix of my tranny and the painted rims?

I just went to Autozone and picked up a bottle of "Super Clean". I'm going to try mine after work tomorrow. My truck needs a good cleaning. If I remember my camera I'll take some before and after pics.

OK, forgot the camera.
Sprayed engine and trans/transfer case, let sit about 5 minutes, then pressure washed it off. It came out real good. I was thinking about putting the truck on a lift on Saturday and spraying some more, letting it sit for 10 to 15 min. then taking a brush to it, then pressure washing it.

My truck looks like no one ever fixed the oils leaks until I bought it.
