I know this is not the place for first gen trucks, but what do you guys think about this truck?

sounds pretty nice!
sounds like a sweet truck, but hard to believe. I'd look at it, try everything to make sure it all works, esp. the winch. It love mine, only problems is a rusty floor. Take it down the road, get it up to speed and see how she does. 5000 though... thats up to you

yeah, if you think about it, it deff would get 14 mpg. the 80s: Gas was cheaper, so who cared what the mpg was; its a carbed engine--carb not as efficient as fuel injection; its a 4x4 truck. its old, its got a huge canopy on it..plus a canoe...plus a winch and bumper...14 easy..im actually surprised he even got that much.

Don't the 22r's have less hp than the 20r's?...i feel like Im correct, but im probably not. 22rs have like 96 hp, 20rs have like 108..or..106..right?
I, too, like the old trucks, but being 18, my insurance would sky rocket with an old vehicle. mine is already pretty high, but with an 80's something vehicle, i probably couldnt afford insurance on it. That truck you're looking at is really nice though! deff ditch the canopy!! I hate those huge, square ones.

no the 22r's have a little more hp than the 20r does, Why do you think it would cost more for the insurance on an older vehicle for you it should be cheaper than a newer one!

well the older vehicle is "unsafe" No airbags, abs, traction control, THIN door walls..no real anti-theft devices..i mean, my '93 doesnt have any of those..but the older vehicle would be considered more unsafe. idk why..but i remember checking online, comparing an '86 4runner, '92 4runner and '98 4runner..the '98 was the cheapest to insure. Maybe its just my insurance company because the more i think about it, it does make sense for older vehicles to have cheaper since if it gets wrecked, its not THAT big of deal, to the insurance companies anyways. it takes less to total older vehicles though, per value.

I dont know about 5k. its hard to believe that old truck has such low miles. those gauges dont show past 99,999 until they just start over. Take a good look before you buy. very sweet truck, minus canopy. my dad bought an 81 bran new and still has it perfect working order sittin in the pole barn. gets used for haulin wood farm stuff.

For the truck, I'd say start at like 4200 or so...maybe you can negotiate. start low on negotiations..and meet somewhere in the middle, just dont offend him by going TOO low. I'm sure you know that though. good luck!

So that, coupled with the canopy brick and your missing gas cap are all culprit gas suckers.
