Well, im gonna weld a piece of my frame back onto the car, and I know i need to remove stuff.

What exactly do I need to remove?

Alternator, battery?

i welded on my frame and didnt disconnect anything, but to be safe you could just disconnect the battery cables. i think if you have a winch you need to disconnect it. i heard you can fry them if you weld with them all hooked up, just my opinion

The battery is way easy to disconnect.

Disconnect the battery and make sure you put the ground clamp really close to what you are welding so that the ciruit is really small.

im no welder, but i know its a pita to track down electrical stuff.

The most important thing to remember is not to ground on the chassis and weld on the door.

I just got done welding on the body today, I had a door open and watched the lights when I threw an arc just to see what happened.

The answer (not surprisingly) is nothing. And it started up and drove just fine, radio worked too.

Just make sure you put the ground close to where the arc will be (and on the same piece of metal) and you should be fine.

Just disconnect the postive on your battery.

everyone just covered most everyting possible-
place the ground electrode as close to the weld as possible
disconnect the battery (at least the positive, and keep it insulated from the rest of the vehicle)
you should be fine.

disconnect both terminals on the batt.... and ground close to what ur welding.. some newer vehicles may have more they want disconected.. might possibly be in the service manual or under the hood.. never really looked before.
