Hey guys, just have an issue I need some insight on.

My dad and I bought a 95 4Runner from my friend a few months ago to fix and sell. The truck has blew a headgasket last summer, didnt overheat that bad so everything was good to go.

We replaced the headgasket and got the truck running. After a few minutes running, the truck started to overheat. We had no heat when we turned the blower on.

We figured the thermostat may have been stuck, so we gutted it. Same issue. We thought the fan clutch may be bad, so we locked it just to try to rule that out. Same issue.

So yesterday, we took the water pump out to inspect it and that was fine. We also ran a hose through the water neck and through the water pump ports on the block and we have flow.

I am certain that both headgaskets are on the right way. We are stumped on what the issue may be. I really would like to get this truck sorted out and sold so I can have the space to work on my Turbo 1st Gen.

No heat means there is air in the cooling system, either it needs to be burped or possibly exhaust gasses getting pushed into the cooling system from warped or cracked heads.

Sounds like the problem I had when I rebuilt my 5v. When we were burping the radiator we had it jacked up on the pass side it needs to be jacked up on the driver side to get all the air bubbles out.

Thanks for the reply guys. I figured it could be contributed to air in the system, but I figured there has to be some sort of circulation problem if there was no heat going into the cabin which is why we pulled the pump to inspect it.

Any other thoughts? Havent started putting it back together yet. Would like to hit all the points before I start assembly. lol

Was stop leak or gasket seal used on it before the HG went? If so, you're radiator & probably heater core are all stopped up with that crap.

Did the radiator got hot at all? If not, it might be clogged. I'd say run water through that also.

The radiator doesn't have to be "clogged" to cause overheating. It simply has to have enough of the stop leak "crap" coating the passages to prevent heat transfer to the fins/outside. This sounds EXACTLY like the problem I had; ended up replacing the radiator:

You're heater core is probably FUBAR, too.

No stop leak or anything was used in the motor. The radiator was a few months old prior to the head gasket blowing. Im sick of this truck. I bought it to fix and make a quick sale. Been sitting on it since November of last year. I need the space. I want to work on my Turbo 1st Gen already!

I would say the air pocket in the system is definitely the cause of your issue... I just redid the head gasket on my 4runner and due to someone using a ceramic sealer I am having issues with my rad but it took quite the hill to burp the bubbles out... I just drove mine so the front was 2' higher then the back. worked like a charm.
Gonna replace the rad in a couple days and take it for another long drive.. only time I get an overheat in my system at all.
