Received a call back from Crower today. The cams looked checked out good and the base circle looks good. The tech and me both agreed that keeping the cams mild would be a good idea since I am running a stock intake and exhaust manifolds.

The stock cams measured at 206 duration intake and exhaust on 111lsa and .387 lift.
The new cams will measure 211 duration intake and 215 exhaust with .397 lift same LSA

I will need to confirm all the numbers on the cam card and will share all the information once we get it.

Crower said about 10 days before they can get them shipped back to me.

So we got the heads back from the machine shop and assembled with cams and have a issue. The largest feeler gauge I have is a 0.025 and all the shims. So now we need to find thicker shims to get all the valve lash adjustements to spec.

From what I can find cbr the shims start at 2.20mm and go to 3.40mm, so if you need something thicker than 3.40mm/.133858in not sure what to do. If you have to get them from Toyota they run approx. $9.00 per shim discounted or approx. $12.00 list.

I see on your spec sheet that Crower gave you a "hot" clearance of .010 & .011in but no "cold" clearance. Kind of hard to measure the valve clearance on these motors hot. Might want to give them a call and see what they recommend.

so far from what I have figured and estimated is I need shims in the 3.10-3.25mm range. With a 0.15mm diffrence in shim thickness that's very consistent. I wish some one had shims locally I could test fit to verify but so far nothing. They make shims up to 3.60 if I am not mistaken.

Sorry correction. You are right looks like the thickest is 3.40mm. Somthing to definitely be mindful of when doing cams and valve work.

When I got my cams back from colt cams he included spacer shims that measured very close to the exact amount of material he removed from the lobe. The idea is that they slide in the bucket under the main shim and in theory you can reuse all your old shims if your clearances are in spec. These "spacer" shims have to be the exact diameter of your main shims so that the main shim won't rock when the cam lobe strikes it. I am 95% certain he told me he got these shims from Toyota. Maybe worth it to look into.

NEVER use shims that are of a smaller diameter than the main shims. Check my Picassa link in my signature to see what happens when a crappy machine shop tries to cut corners. Thankfully I found a great machine shop and the re-re-build was perfect.

Yeah I have been crunching numbers all weekend. Looks like tomorrow I am ordering about $100 in shims from Toyota. Let's hope my math is right.
