Water Fording
Well, took my runner out to our favorite spot today, and tried something new. That something new entitled crossing a lake. Well she did well enough till we got bogged into the soft sand, surprisingly enough she backed right out of it, almost as if SHE was refusing to go deeper.
Anyway, point of the story is this; I want to try it again, now the conditions we dealt with were this; About half way across the lake, we were in pretty deep. Water coming in through the doors, about 4 inches of water inside the truck and due to the angle, half the hood was under water.
What I've got done so far is this: 3 inch body lift, relocated intake to the back of the engine bay(although this week my buddy and I will be stopping at Lowes for some PVC and find a way to either run her out the fender and up the A pillar, or right up out of the hood all together.), Relocated computer(thank God I stuffed it in the glovebox or we would have been screwed).
I know that we need to get the axle vents up away from the axle(didn't think of that one till after we came out of it) and seal the TCase and Trans shifters. We also pulled out the carpets today(again afterwards), and pulled the drain plugs. We're also going to run a flex pipe off the tailpipe and run it up along the driver side quarter panel behind the back seat.
Next we're looking at regearing(already own the 4.88's) and 4 inches suspension lift and a set of 33's or 34's. What else would I need to get in place to make this run? Anyone tried anything similar? We're figuring at the max the lake is 4 1/2 to 5 feet deep.
I know it's alot of work being put in to cross a stupid lake. But it's 1 of 2 things the truck has failed to do at this particular spot. (On stock tires mind you)
Worst case scenario we can always unbolt the top, and float away to safety. Right? lol

Change your fluids ASAP!! repack the wheel bearings, ASAP!! Grease the chassis, ASAP!!! sweet picture. Look into water-proofing the ignition components and the alternator as well! Use di-electric grease on the ignition stuff and some way to keep the water off the alt, but allow it to breathe.

The pic I couldn't take of the lake was when my co-pilot was in the truck with me. But the water was about 2 inches lower than my window line. Next week I will have that dang picture.
The pic there and the other I've attached are just of a deep pool on the way to the lake.
Good point on the alternator...gonna have to think something up for that.
As for hydrolock...did that to a jeep once, luckily I managed to kill the motor and pull the plugs and blow her out. Not looking forward to it again.
And for no apparent reason I'm gonna add this random thought cuz theres noone else to tell. Is it really snowing out? Its April.

Snowing in April? We still have snow on the ground not much...but its still there.
edit: NVM. I reread your first post. I thought you said you were GOING to relocate the intake. I see you already have. !!!!

Certainly am...we get everyone else's used broken crap, so we gotta do something.
Should I mention that my EGR valve is hacked together with things I found on the floor of my garage. Without welding or machining. And it passed inspection. Hose clamps, radiator hose and 3/8" fuel line.

If I were a betting man I'd have to say he wasn't infantry. Everyone elses stuff has to pass some kind of standard. Most of our good stuff we stole from Navy Seals or Marine Snipers after they were told to evac an area without us.
Now imagine if he was honed up on his skills, and he was hell bent on changing that light...just imagine what the the finished product would have looked like. Oh sure, the light would work...but...
