w56 rear seal retainer housing

The housing had orange sealant, either a permatex orange or OEM red sealant that turns orange, and alot of orange snakes inside and out, parts list shows gasket, but tried to order the gasket kit from dealership, got kit in, but that gasket is no longer included so I just got the red OEM sealant to use alone, On YT I saw a pic of a housing removed and had a gasket still there but no seal showing to see how it was installed, bummer!!!! Or should I get some gasket material from NAPA and make my own and use OEM red dressing on the gasket, the pic of the gasket shows signs of black sealant dressing squeezed out, Look on #10 entry at the pics on this link on YT, https://www.yotatech.com/forums/f116...thread-219038/ How should I proceed, Thanks for any pics or help...

I removed the transmission rear output shaft seal retainer housing to install new seal and I got distracted (aunt had me helping for family reunion Sat.) and forgot how the seal came out of the housing, of course didn't have camera, does anybody have a pic with installed seal, I've been searching for couple hours and can't find a pic of back side of housing with a visible seal still there or new one installed, is the seals open end with the spring side up towards back side of housing? Or the flat solid part sticking towards back side of housing, front has the long round what I call snout...

Edit: After posting I found the answer to the seal question, on this thread> http://<br /> https://www.yotatech....6/index89.html
on #2209.

I would appriciate the answers. Thanks guys!!!! Have a great weekend!!!!

the side that the spring opens up to should face toward the fluid you need to seal in, the flat solid part faces away from the fluid you're trying to seal
