Vinyl floor replacement

Hey guys, I ripped out my old vinyl flooring because it was NASTY and I had plans to just rhino line the whole floor of the truck from front to back. That is until I found this:

http://www.ap23.com/owens/product.ph...do4cuji6i5pq43

Have you guys heard of this company...do they make a legit replacement flooring? Looks like a good deal for a comfy new ride! I was going to do the passenger area only and then rhino line the truck bed.

i don't know about that company but i would recommend the bed liner. i did herculiner in my cab years ago and it still looks great. like all painting jobs, prep is key so don't do it if you can't put in the prep work.

Can you paint it directly onto the tar sound deadening material? How do you prep that? The only reason I like the idea of vinyl is it is a little more comfy on the ol' feet and not as resonant as a hard truck liner would be.

Your best bet on prepping would probably be to wire-wheel that nasty off of the floor. You could try a chemical stripper, it might cut some of it off but in the end I think it will probably take a wire wheel. Just my thoughts. You are going to want to get down to bare metal or to clean paint that you can scuff. Hopefully you don't find rust holes...

i'm not sure about the tar material, i don't recall if mine had any of that or not. the liner is nice if you want something that will handle off-road conditions a little better. if that's not much of a concern then the vinyl would probably be easier to do.

dry ice on the tar stuff for five mins. whack with mallet and it shatters off clean as a babies bottom, i would get the mat and keep the insulation under it the drone of the road will drive you nuts or it drove me nuts when i had my jeep tub lined it was loud especially with the top on

Yeah after you take into consideration the painstakingly difficult task of removing the tar deadening material, I think the vinyl floors are a viable option. Luckily I have an immaculate floor with zero rust (surprisingly enough). I imagine it is still pretty easy to clean up vinyl floors. I'll probably have some heavy duty rubber mats in there too so it shouldn't be bad. Blake's got a good point about the road noise. The nice thing about that company is the vinyl flooring they send has a layer of that heavy jute on it as well!

It may be a month or two before I try to buy it but I'll be sure to take some pics...I have some other priorities with the truck (like getting my back window to actually work without hot-wiring the motor).

Rhino line over the sound deadener, just make sure all bits and pieces of rug/grit/grime are gone.

don't bedline the inside, when it gets hot it stinks really bad lol. there's this sutff that's similar to dynamat but it's water and mud proof and whatever else. use that and that put some marine grade carpet over it. i was going to do that to my 81 but never got to it...

I read somewhere where they said it gets really hot inside.

Ya gotta think, it's already got an undercoating... Then metal... Then if you over coat that... Then put it right on top of a hot engine and transmission.

IDK, sounds nice... But you can prolly just get away with painting it.

(It's already painted, should be no difference)

Tape under the drain plugs, then just re-install the plugs...

Pull them, then wash out... Just like a Defender

I've had my cab lined with herculiner for 5 years and I don't think the road noise is any worse and it has never smelt bad when hot out as someone mentioned. It stunk for the first few months but that went away. Rhino lining is much harder then the Herculiner so I would agree that it is probably louder. The herculiner is pretty soft, like a permanent rubber mat. I have never once regretted installing it. I made some drain bolts that I can pop out from the floor and hose out the inside if necessary. It also looks a lot better then stained carpet or torn out up vinyl. It's not for everyone but I love it.

Yeah I think if I was going to be doing more off-roading or if I worked in a messy job, it would be a better option. I think my truck will mainly be used as my daily driver and for our camping excursions so I think vinyl will probably suit me the best for up in the cab. I think that drain bolt feature sounds nice but I can't think of a situation where I will be getting it that dirty.

I Agree, the vinyl will be easier and more practical. Especially since its a messy job. I just didn't like all the liner bashing going on so I wanted to set the record straight. Ha ha. good luck.
