Yeah metals tends to stretch when you pound on it, lol

It thins out and expands a little, making it bulge out from the surrounding area...

You might be able to CAREFULLY and SLOWLY work it back down with a flat-faced body hammer or possibly a rubber mallet, taping around in working from the outside and making your way to the center of the dent. If you start off in the center, you'll probably just push it right back in the way it was before, lol.

Just remember, you're not trying to force the metal to do what you want it to do, you want to gradually coax it into the shape you want

i park my truck by the lake. leave it there for a few hours. go back to the truck round 1am and see like 10 massive dents in the hood. must be dumb drunk kids that were walking by and decided it would be fun to stomp a hood

Or heat the surrounding metal up really hot and tap it in with a ball-peen hammer as it cools down... and I really mean "tap"- no smacks just light taps. Hard hits will stretch it, light taps might cause it to recoil into shape. Otherwise tapping on it with a dolly behind may work.
Just remember, you're not trying to force the metal to do what you want it to do, you want to gradually coax it into the shape you want
Huh? You don't want to force it, just gradually coax it into shape? That line didn't work in the 80's when I was in high school and you expect it to work now?
