Very slow warm up?
My 4Runner has always warmed up very slowly compared to other vehicles I have owned (including other 22RTE's).
All other aspects of the cooling system seem to be working fine, but for some reason getting up to running temp takes probably 3 or 4 times as long as my stock 22RTE in my last pickup.
My initial thought is that the thermostat is stuck open (although its new) but before i drain it and replace it, any one else have any suggestions?
I have an electric fan, and it stays off until the truck gets warm.
I do have an external oil cooler as well, but I wouldn't think it would have such a huge impact on coolant temperature during warm-up.
It's getting pretty chilly and it would be nice if the heater was effective a bit faster..
Thanks
Ben

Is the engine temperature going up or not? Is it just no heat until the guage is reading higher? I get good heat in my truck as soon as the guage starts reading something. If your does not then I would say that you have air in the system or your heater valve is not opening all the way.

Once i see temps register i start to get heat from the heater.. It just takes a really long time for much heat to register.
I forgot to mention I burped the system about a week ago but it didn't change anything.

I wouldn't think so either. If you don't have one I'd suggest getting an oil cooler bypass thermostat on that so you don't run cold oil through the cooler. Most open automaticly at 180 F IIRC.

Sounds like it is working the way it should. The only thing would be the thermostat. Are you running synthetic oil? That might make it take a bit longer but I doubt you would notice much.
