valve tap

i have a 90 pickup with a 22re. theres a weird tapping sound that seems to be coming from m valve train. the noise increases with higher rpms. i tried the lucas oil stabilizer, it helped a little. any suggestions on how i should approach this problem?

have you adjusted the valve lash? do a search on valve adjustment, and you'll find a ton of info.

If you think you have a valvetrain noise the first thing to do is to check the valve clearances and set them to spec.

While you have the valve cover off you can inspect the timing chain and guides

And when it goes back together, don't overtighten the valve cover nuts as this will make the valves noisey.

I 2nd that as this was my problem. I also no that if the valve covers are to tight, it will cause tapping as well.
