valve shims?

I was looking on this site http://www.cylinderheadsupply.com/va...iscs-31mm.html for shims for a 3.0 3vze. I need 2 #8 2.55 mm shims but I don't know how big around the shim is in mm. I'm thinking its the 31mm x X.XXmm I'm looking for but there are no 31mm x 2.55mm shims on the site. BAHHH!

Are you sure you are looking for the correct shim size? I'm sitting here with a 3vze shim from my 91 toyota longbed 4x4 and it is a 34mm shim. There are 34mm shims in the 2.55 size.

Hmmm, I should have mentioned that the measurement is diameter rather than circumference. Cylinder Head Supply was a great source for me.

Right on! You did find them somewhere besides the dealership or the junkyard. That's pretty cool. Way to go!

http://www.cylinderheadsupply.com/va...iscs-34mm.html

Who'd a thunk it?

Now are they cheaper than the dealership? That's the next relevant question.

They're $17.01 a piece including shipping from 1stToyotaParts.com

Ouch! I guess not. $24.33 each including shipping from that site. Oh well....it was a valiant effort. I'll applaud you for that anyways.

Reading comprehension. Cylinder Head Supply sells in packs of 4. Quantity of one. Total of 4. Whatever. If I wanted to drive to San Ysidro to hit junk yards I would, but some people have other things to do and I don't live next to a junk yard. Toyota, here in wonderful sunny San Diego, couldn't seem to get my shim order right. I did not order from 1st toyota parts and maybe that was my problem But Cylinder Head Supply was fast, efficient and cheap for me. I could have juggled all of my shims and it would have been fine with one set of 4 in one size. I splurged on two sets. Did not have to practice my spanish nor stand around while everyone hits the lunch wagon

Whoops! I missed that.
Product Description
34mm valve clearance disc. Four per package.
Still...what a rip off! Like anyone's gonna need 4 shims the same size. Wait...dammit! I did need 4 of the same size and 2 of another when I adjusted my intake valves. DOH!

That would have saved me quite a considerable ammount of $ had I known better at the time. Oh well, now I know...

Ya live ya learn!

Who knows what will work for cheap? I guess it depends on what shims you can swap around. I'll say it again, my local dealer (mossy toyota) jerked me around. In stock was the word I wanted to hear and Cylinder Head Supply put the shims in the mail the day I ordered. They stock shims. No special order. Very nice to get my 3vze closed up and on the road.

You can buy individual ones through toyotapartszone for approx 7.68 ea + ship. There prices seem to vary a little bit here an there at different times.

is it not ok to ask if vvt shims will work on older 3.0 in a "shim" forum?? Searched first...no topic. Sorry about the engine overhaul kit question in this topic.

No it isn't, let me explain why...

Right, so the appropriate manner in which to ask the question would be to start a new thread. Since you can't find one with a topic that's related. Your "VVT 3.0" valvetrain is in no way similar to the 3.0/3VZ-E valvetrain we're talking about here. In fact, those 2 engines have NOTHING in common parts wise that I'm aware of(as in they don't use ANY of the same size parts, nor do they have ANY parts that are swappable between them whatsoever). As such, there's no sense whatsoever in mucking up a perfectly good thread with this sudden switch of topic.

Put simply, if it's NOT about the valve shims for the 3VZ-E, then it doesn't belong here. So start a new thread, or keep trying to find one, because this is not the place for it. Get it?

well according to the rules, new users cannot post a new topic untill you have replied or posted fifteen times. I am not the type who lives to be on message boards or forums. I have viewed this site from time to time and found helpfull info. I did not know that you guys are a bunch of a$$holes. I think I will find another place to get advice if needed.

See ya!
