valve cover gasket...
Getting ready to install valve cover gasket set on my 89 22re. do i use any gasket sealer on it anywhere like maybe the half moon end seals? also when i install the new gromets on top of the cover , what are the torque specs on these, or do i tighten and watch to they start to squish ?

not sure about the end seals, but the gasket thats actually part of the cover just fits into the grove.
The cover should be tightened down, but doesent need to be very tight. If its not tight enough you'll see some oil dripping out the back onto the roadsurface when you're parked. If its too tight it can contact the lifters.

As for the Half-Moon end seal I use YamaBond-4-Semi-Drying-Liquid-Gasket or Threebond 1104 since the stuff stay soft it will seal well and also allow you to remove it easy.
I only use the YamaBond on the half-moon pieces.
Do not over tighten the cover. I use a nut driver (Screw driver handle with 12mm socket) and hand tight the cover bolts. If you use a rachet or wrench you can get to much torque.
As for the PVC valve gromets on top of the cover just pop it into place. Spray some WD-40 on it before you install it. You do not need the WD-40 but it makes it slide into place a bit more easy.
