Valve chatter extremely bad when warm.

My truck has normal 22re valve chatter but upon warm-up...meaning about 15-30mins+ of driving the chatter is like omg. It gets louder and sounds like theres pinging and tiny hammers and but only when i've been drving it a while. I'm going to make a youtube vid of it tomarrow.

ever pull the valve cover when hot and check the clearance on the valves? These valves are simple and easy to adjust.

gets worse as it warms? worn rocker shafts / arms is my guess.
They aren't like the valve clearances which get tighter as the engine warms up.

Rocker arm shafts? Didn't know they could really get worn. that would make sense though cause the valves have been adjsd alot in this truck and the chatter bearly goes away if at all. The valves havent been adjsd in a long time prob 30-45k miles ago so i'm going to start with that i guess.

I know for a fact its not anything about the chain guides cause they are fairly new. and were done 40k ago with the head gasket.

Think about it- every time the cam comes up to open a valve, the rocker arm has tension from the cam lobe and valve... and it moves back and forth... yeah, the shafts wear.
That's why almost every camshaft supplier recommends replacing the rocker arms and shafts, else you can't get a 'true' clearance / valve adjustment.

I never thought about it but that would explain all the freakin valve adjsting and no difference in noise. How long you think it could go being worn or how much could it wear?

I don't have the measurements handy... but you can measure the clearance between the cam lobe and the rocker, but you'd need to know the rocker arm ratio and calculate how the .008 or .012 at the valve would factor to the clearance between the rocker and the cam... just a thought.

The FSM has tolerances regarding the rockers and shafts. So maybe look it up?
