v6 tps sensor problem diagnosed and solved

ok guys this is my first post, so i figure ill make it a good one...

i recently ( last week) bought a 90 4runner v6 4x4 and it idled like crap, almost like it had a big cam in it, the idle jumped around sparatically..... there was no check engine light

the truck didnt run bad other than that, allthough the timing was way too advanced and i can assume that if your timing is set like it should be there would be a loss in power and gas mileage

after searching the forums and seeing how other people had similar issues i went to the following site and adjusted the tps accordingly.

www.4crawler.com/4x4/CheapTricks/TPS/index.shtml

now she purrs like a kitten and has much more smooth power

the only issue i had in the adjustment procedure was the full throttle test..... the resistance just increased and eventually went infinite at about half throttle.... i was worried that the tps was bad due to this but it runs great and the other tests and adjustments worked fine so im not worried about it anymore....

also, i didnt have any feeler gauges, so i used a credit card for the 78mm size and a business car for the 50mm size and it seems to have worked wonderfully

just thought id share since alot of those tps threads out there are dead end .... cheers from hawaii, and pardon my crappy punctuation

oh and i definitely cleaned out the tb thoroughly cause there was definitely some crap around the throttle plate.... that could account for a little performance gain
