Used 3.0

I am having a used 1995 3vze engine installed into my 1995 4runner.
I bought the 1995 4runner with 185K on the engine. My mechanic said that the engine was shot. The engine that I am installing has 52K on it.I have verified the mileage thru carfax and the DMV.What I would like to know is would you change the water pump and the timing belt? I will change the timing belt but every time that I do not abide by the rule ( if it is not broken do not fix it ) I get bitten.

60k is the factory recommended interval on the belt. Many, many people get a fair amount more than that out of their belts, though. I'd inspect it and leave it be, if it's still good.

The water pump will last you a lot longer than that. Leave it alone.

This is ALL provided it's Toyota equipment, of course. It's harder to vouch for aftermarket reliability unless you have a good track record with a particular brand.

You're not that far from the change interval, and the engine is out - prime time to at least change the timing belt. That will also give you a view of the other stuff to make up your mind about whether or not to change them, or not.

Keep in mind that age is an enemy to mechanical things as much as the milage, so the idea of water pump and tensioner changes are not outrageous, but I'd look at them, first.

I would also see if you can run the vin from the donor truck and see if the headgasket has been changed under the recall yet and if not see how to go about getting it replaced even if you have to leave it in the donor to get it done then bring it home and swap the motors.

I checked with Toyota on the VIN # of the donor motor.
The motor was made after 1/1/1995 and does not need the HG work to be done. Thanks for everyones input.

Do you mind if I ask how much you're paying for this? Just wondering if, when the time comes, it would be affordable for me to have this done.
