Urgent: My yota Back fires

this started to happen at least two weeks ago, as i start up my motor to get ready to go to work, she runs ruff, im like ok maybe the motor is cold. and after like 30sec the motor smooths out. And now it seems everyday it gets worse. And then today, so i was drive from my brothers house and i start my truck up same thing, i waited for a lil i was like ok, ill drive n see if she warms up enough to smooth out. and rite as i start accelerating the motor starts to hesitate n back fire. so after 10mins of driving it goes away. But as i arrive home i notice like a block away from my house the Check engine light goes on for at least 15 sec then off then back on again. So as i got home i popped open the hood to see if anything was wrong. Then i started to hear some popping from the radiator, then i when back inside my truck to turn my truck back on n noticed she was really close to over heating. And also the valves were popping alot more than normal.

So does anyone know what the hell happened? im thinking i need to buy some new spark plugs?? i havent replaced them for a while.

i don't know what you did, but i've been trying to get my 3.4 v6 to backfire for weeks now...lucky bastard...

sounds like time for a tune-up. including timing, fluids, and pressure checks.

I guess thats the best place to start.

Backfire

Personally I would change out the distributor car and rotor. If that doesn't help, check the timing belt position.

do you run without an air filter? My friend did that and after a while he started having problems similar to that, but I don't know if that is a problem...

Well if this isnt enough to completely confuse you. Nine times outta ten a backfire is caused by a vaccum issue.

My thought if your air filter is off and just running through the tube, then a lot of moisture could be the problem...
