Upgrade Ignition??

I've seen some rig picks lately that have an upgraded ignition coil feeding their 22re. Is it really worth it? Does it boost your redline? or is it just that they are as inexpensive as stockers so why not upgrade?

Check this link for an example

Performance ignitions are needed on performance motors.
If your putting a performance ignition on a 22r/e without making other mods youre wasting your time and $$$.

I have minimal performance mods to my 22re and still use the OEM coil,it works just fine.

A upgraded ignition will give you a little more oomph. I had a Jacobs setup on mine for a while but went back to stock after 2 of them died on me, just wasn't worth the hassle for the minimal gains.

All I have is the engnbldr cam and a 2" cat back exhaust. The plan is to through a header and freer flowing cat on after taxes come back. Is that enough to warrant the upgrade or not?

You can do it if you want to, but even with the cam and exhaust it still really wouldn`t be worth it. If you had a ported and polished head with over sized valves, cam and exhaust, then it would definatly be worth doing.

until you start putting more fuel into the engine you dont really need an upgraded ignition system.

i had a msd blaster ss coil on my truck, and i really didn't tell a difference. so its not worth it unless you have big power gains like a turbo or a stroker kit.
