update on code 52 erratic idle 3vze
This update might end up being long but I think it might be important enough to share. First off Chris I apologize for not calling on Monday about that smog. I also want to thank you for the tire. Unfortunately, the light came on soon after I left.
Now to my update! I assumed that the code 52 the truck gave me had to be wrong. After all, the previous owner who had it longest, had just put $3,000 into it. I tested every thing I was told to and I was stumped. I looked through old posts again. I was going crazy wondering!? I took off the airhorn (i think that's what it's called) and got a better look at the knock sensor wire. It looked as though it had been taped over. I was on the war path thinking what a shoddey job the repair shop did when they repaired the heads. Then I thought " hey I should call that guy whose name is still on the pink." BINGO! I found him. After many questions I found out that the $3000 he spent was actually only $1,600 and that was 3 or 4 years ago for the head gaskets. He had the timing belt replaced last year and the knock sensor had started coding 52 in March.
That made me rethink this whole thing. So I decided to do the only sensible thing. The one thing I'm sure I read past, on previous posts. I did a compression check! WAY TO GO DUMB ASS! Probably the first thing I should have done. Here are the results everything 180, except for 4 and 6 #4 has 90 and #6 has 00000000000000. I think the knock sensor was trying to tell me something. What do you think? I got results like that when my head gasket went on my Nissan. Oh boy, I can't wait to fix that. Thanks to all of you for the help.
I'm gonna have another beer and think this one over!
