up and down idle

I did search and found alot of good info but nothing to silve my problem idles up and down and doesnt quit if break is pressed. check whole intake for vacuum leak and none re did the vacuum hoses. idle screw doesnt change it at all. only thing I havent check is egr. I did put vacuum on the top hose coming off egr and it barely made the motor re act also sounds like ill need a timing chain soon.
any info is great thanks

Dont know which motor you have, I looked on your info site and didnt see it. If it is the 22re and you are suspecting the EGR, alot of the ports on the plenum are most likely plugged. On the first post of my thread, you can find where I put some info on cleaning your EGR . Check for leaks on all air hoses is about the only other suggestions I could make for now.

Also I would make sure all of your connections are right. Have you been doing some other maintanance before this happened?

The Plenum is a actually what says EFI on it. The intake is the piece that connects the Plenum to head.

Are you getting any codes or a check engine light?

If you check on my 2nd page and on post #43 is on the EGR.

You are not retard. It will be gunked up bad if it hasnt been worked on. If you are confident in your mechanical abilities. I would suggest takingit off and taking it to a carwash.

You can clean it on the truck. It may not be the EGR, Im not a pro on these, but usually can eventually get it. You having a Check engine light? I can show you how to pull the codes. What year you have?

If you are getting a check engine light, take a paper clip or something simaliar and jump TE1 and E1. If it is 87 and up. Yo do the same thing on and 86 and down but the test port is on the drivers side and Im not sure about it. Just what I have been told.

Shut the key off and jump the ports. Then turn on but dont need to go to start position. It will be on Passenger side and turn the key on and count the blinks. For example 71 will have 7 blinks and a pause and 1 blink.

Throttle Position Sensor (TPS) will do this in addition to a problem with Idle Air Control Valve (IACV).

I just checked Haynes and dont see a code 51. You want to count again? It should repeat itself.

A code 51 IIRC is related to the TPS. Most likely unplugged or broken wire.

TPS can cause this, I am not familiar with the IACV, and wont be able to help with that. I know it is in there somewhere but not sure where.

So a code 51 is legit? I didnt see it in my Haynes. I will make a note of it in there.

Another one I have found not listed in Haynes is a code 27, which is a California O2 Sensor. I think it is the one behind the Catalytic converter. I have a Cali truck and learned the hard way.

I need to break down and get me a Field Service Manual. I have down loaded on before and just cant get around in it. Haynes doesnt even mention an IACV or I havent found it. Im checking in the emissions chapter and looked in the Index of the manual.

make sure the TB is the correct one, IIRC there was 2 maybe even 3 different TPS's in the 22re truck. but I could be wrong.
