UnderCoating "Hard Grease" Meathod ?What Type !!!?

Hello again everyone.

I am going to take my buddies advice and undercoat my 94 runner, but not just cover everything with grease, i want to remove rust and then grease it up by hand.

The plan of attack is to remove as much rust as possible on the frame and suspsion with a grinder rust removall wheel, and wire brush, then apply the grease.

Only thing is, i'm stuck on what grease to use, and i want the grease to be dark in color. Any suggestions ? I was also wondering what i can do to protect the rubber bushings that are located at different areas on my suspension.... if there's anything i could apply to them.

Thanks everyone.

This stuff is incredible.

http://www.fluid-film.com/

I coat the entire underside using 2 spray cans once a year before winter.

It won't remove existing rust, but it will protect from new rust occuring, and will stop any existing rust from getting worse. It also won't hurt paint, plastic or rubber.

I can vouch for FluidFilm. The areas on the frame that were sprayed had no rust growth that I could see from the year before (and I just changed my oil/rotated tires). When its applied, its almost a translucent crappy white brown colour, but after it soaks in for a few days, it just makes whatever was treated look wet. I think its kind of a waxy base, and has a neat smell haha. I urge you to try it on something first if you don't want to do the whole truck, but this is the product I will be using from now on. It can be washed off with a pressure washer, so just re-apply to any areas that get washed. It held up through the winter/salt too.

I know this may sound a bit lame, but i want the underneath to be coasted with grease but have a dark black look to it.

I'm sure fluid film is good, but can anyone reccomend an undercoating agent that's realy dark in color ?

I get what your going for, but if your frame is black-ish at all, the fluid film would actually would make it look darker.

yes it is still a little blackish. I was just watching some youtube videos on Fluid Film and it looks worth it.

Can you spray your engine block, exhaust pipes and components with fluid film or undercoating, or is that a fire hazard ?

The can I have left says:

Extremely flammable. Keep from open flame, use with adequate ventilation.

You'll need high heat engine paint for those applications.

Not grease, a high heat paint like this:

http://store.summitracing.com/partde...art=SHW-DH1610

but in a black color if that's what you choose

None, Just go to walmart, buy four jackstands and about 15 of their 96 cent gloss black rattle cans, remove your wheels and tires, and go to town painting the crap outta the frame, and anything else thats rusted, be sure to scuff everything with like 220 grit sandpaper, and power wash the underside of the vehicle first, worked for me.. Grease is just gonna gum up, get nasty, and then cause you problems.

I plan on covering every inch of my 4runner with oil and lube. Not realy wanting to paint anything around the engine at this point.

Fluid Film to the frame and other low temp areas. Around the engine i'm going to use Jiga-Loo Extreeme Graphite spray, good for super hi temps.

Another tip for using Fluidfilm:

Open the storage compartment doors in the back of your crago area and spray some into the spaces between the rear quarter panels. In my 1st gen 4runner I also did this after removing the backseat cupholder areas on both sides. The Fluidfilm will displace any water that condenses or otherwise winds-up in those closed spaces.

It's also great for lubing the door locks, hinges and etc..

it doesnt matter what color grease that you use its eventually going to turn brown from all the dirt and dust that sticks to it. the new chevy trucks have grease on the frame all they do is collect dirt
