Hey!

I have a 1989 single cab pickup 22re 5spd. I love my truck! But today i was downshifting from 50mph about 10mph to make a turn and when i pushed in my clutch it felt like i broke something.

My clutch pedal has been squeaking for about two weeks now... and since the snap noise it won't shift unless i force it (which I had to do to make it 5 miles home from work). It shifts very smoothly when the engine is off.

What's the deal? Blown pilot bearing or clutch or something? ugh.

check the welds around the pedal on the firewall

I had the slave cylinder pushrod snap in two on my FJ40, but that wouldn't allow me to shift at all. 874Runner is probably right, as I've heard of people's clutch pedal mounts break.

Clutch pedal bracket snapped is my guess. You can remove it, reinforce/weld it, or buy a new one. It's not too bad of a job. I did the clutch pedal bracket on my friend's '91 Pickup a few years ago on Black Friday in a crowded mall parkinglot with basic hand tools. It was cold, it sucked, but I got him home!

Sounds like the snap sound is figured out.
But something to add. It is possible to shift without using the clutch. You just have to learn the shift points and have it at the right rpms. And dont pull it out of gear when under load.

I will also mention, that at that point in my life I was working nights (7pm-5am), and I went to fix his truck at 9am, after going to the junkyard to pull the bracket from another truck.

That night at work sucked, too. LOL. So happy I'm off nights.
