***U joint woess ***
So after my gas tank incident i realized i most likely needed new U's
I got the rear drive shaft out and the "center" U joint was extremely sticky when rotating it one way but not the other, then i realized i had grease-able u joints.
Grease-able U's aren't stock..correct ??
so i tried greasing the one that was giving me trouble, no dice, still sticky as before..
This means my u joint is worn out...correct..??

and this is how I know mine are in need of replacement right now, lol
and the fact that their starting to make noise...
once they get to the noise making, you might wunna take care of them with maybe the next week or so, or you may find yourself driving home on front hubs...

their comp said 2 diff things, Front and rear, or center.
wait, now that i think about it, would the "center" one be for the shafts with the double cardian joints ??
yeaahh, Looking at the Fsm, I think the center is for the double cardian joints and that stupid B word didnt know what she was talking about

well here's my understanding...
single cabs have a single piece D-shaft with 2 U-joints (trans and diff). on the other hand, an extended cab will have a 2 piece D-shaft and 3 U-joints (trans, center, and rear), with a carrier bearing at the center U-joint.
looking at your avatar to the left, it appears to be a single cab as my 91 is, and mine's a single D-shaft with 2 U-joints... leading me to asking what you mean by center...
If I'm not mistaken, the trans and diff one are identical no matter the case, it's just that the single cab wont have the center joint
now of coarse, I could be horribly mistaken... it wouldn't be the first time
which U-joint are you feeling as stiff; where's it located on the drive-train? I mean, usually when you do one, it's general practice to replace them all, but just curious here...

right now?
oh wait, yer in San Diego, lol, it's almost midnight here in Fl...
I know on their computers and can be tricky to read; you have to make sure you read the fine print...
I worked at Advance Auto for about 2 and a half years, and one that was commenly messed up were Nissan pickups, like the early to mid 90's models. You have the single-cab-short-bed drive-train by itself, and then you had the drive-train setup for the single-cab-long-bed and extended-cab-short-bed... yep, it's a lot of fun...
Just be sure to read all the fine print, and see if they have a U-joint diagram; most of the time it they can show a diagram of different drive-train setups and the U-joint locations are numbered, and then you just have to say "I need number 1" or "2", or whatever the case may be, you get the idea...

I actually got to talk to the dude this time, other then the woman (not sexist but she obviously ordered me the wrong part so she doesnt know what shes talking about)
but yeah dude, got it figured out.
if you look in the fsm, itll show the 2 joint type, and 3 joint type, the "center" would be the one that goes in the 3 joint type.
but i got it settled, and got 2 bucks back, so no worries
Now all i have to do is get the stupid retainers off, and get the new u's in.
yayy

**Update**
UPDATE:
After my week long battle with my U-joints, I've finally given up
My next door neighbor happens to be a ford mechanic, the mechanic part is the only thing that concerns me...He has been assisting me in this battle . When i get stuck or need the bench vice he helps me out.
Well tonight me zerk fitting for one of the U's broke off
So i had the spare u, trying to get it in we came to the conclusion that the flange is bent, i need a machine shop that'll bend it out and at the same time will get the stupid U in.
So monday before school im hoping i can drop it off, then pick it up after school.
He referred me to a driveline shop in Vista, Ca.
Anyway, i was reading a thread not too long ago where molly (lysmachia(i think i got it right)) said just go to a driveline shop and how she saves her Ujoint replacement for the trail, I should have heeded her advice.
Anyway this was my rant/update
Wish i wasnt bored on a saturday night

what makes yoiu think the flange is bent?
as in onec you get the caps in the clips will not fit?
any pics, cause if that's what you've ran into, I bet I know what's happening; it happened to me today when I changed both of mine...

well when i put the first one in, the clips almost didnt fit, when i went for try 2, it was just more bent, and you can see it, the cap wouldnt go on the the actual joint, and wouldnt go into the hole very far

have you sence removed the caps and looked inside where the roller-bearings are?
it's common for the bearings to fall out of place and cause issues very similar...

when we pulled it out all the needle bearings were still in place.
Trust me, id rather pay some one 30 bucks or something to get it done, rather then messing with it for another week
the thing needs to be machined and pulled back straight anyway, so while its at a driveline shop, why not have em put the u's in the correct way..riggghtt ?
