two little MAF screws make neat tearing sound
Wow - if you unscrew the two little screws on a 3.0 MAF/AFM and gently pull on the connection - it makes a neat little tearing sound.... AAAAAARRRRGGGGHHHH
Note to self, before tinkering while waiting for a new head gasket to arrive - read the forum first.

Do NOT take out those 2 screws that look like they hold the AFM plug in place. Those screws are possibly a trap meant to help boost Toyota parts sales or maybe just a mean joke by the Toyota engineers.
BTW while the "A" and the "F" both stand for air flow, the "M" in AFM stands for meter, the "M" in MAF stands for mass. MAFs were not used on the 86-95 trucks. Actually Toyota calls the AFM a VAFM, with the "V" standing for volume. The AFM and MAF are two competely different ways of measuring air flow.

haha... that sucks... you can solder it back together, i took mine apart when it got full of muddy water, and put it back together, I did go get another from a bone yard for $15, but now i have a spare.

That's true, I soldered my foil strips back together too. It takes a steady hand, thin solder and a small tip soldering iron and don't let solder cross-over any of the little tracks on the circuit board.

Now I have a code #24 from the used VAFM. I get a slight tingle (electrical shock) when I slightly touch the metal body...so maybe their really is some short of the air temp sensor and THA

wow! i just did this earlier today on my 22re! was trying to move everythin out of the way to pound out some dents, and hastily figured the two screws would be easier to remove than the wire bent around the connector...after gently pulling, i stood there staring perplexed as to why Toyota would allow for this silly design!?
