allright ive had this idear floatin around in my head, seing that i have a head sittin here designed for pop up pistons (i bought the wrong one.......) and i have the head designed for flat top pistons, i was thinkin, with the other head it would lower my compression, if i could get my hands on a turbo and mani ext.. what would i have to do to make it work on my carb?...or new carb whatever, seen it done b4...my buddy had a 73 monte with a 3.8 turbo carbed, everyone thought it came out of a buick gran national but it came stock.. anyways any thoughts? been beatin this thing to death in my head

Depends if you do draw through or blow through. Both have their drawbacks. Draw through you would have to have a plenum fabricated to mount the carb to the turbo, then attach the turbo outlet to the intake manifold. Blow through would mean you would need to either seal the crap out of your carb if you did just a 'hat' style, or fab up a sealed box that would put the entire carb under pressure. I dont know enough about carbs to tell you what parts of the carb you would need to alter, but I know it will be a lot. Or if the 22r carbs can even be altered to deal with pressure. Your talking a bunch of time, fab and money for about 130HP. My 0.02.

carbs and turbos dont mix very well u could posibly make it work but fuel intection would be alot better

meh i just figured since i have the head, about half the expense..and all i had to do was source a turbo and exhaust mani, it might work, but yeah if its really not going to do anything power wise theres no real sense in doing so, except to say hay ive got a turbo hah...not, but if anyone els would like to shed some light be my guest..still kinda interested...

Another drawback with draw-through turbo (carb before turbo) is that any manifold or ducting leak is gonna vent air-fuel mix.

go to lcengineering.com they deal with toyota only they have turbos and everything else performance wise for toyota you can think of

well i was allready screwin around on the internet for a while today and i founds me a 22r supercharger, that would be cool, but not for the 3K price tag...and wouldnt it need the same thing? lower compression..like a turbo motor, guessing so it does the same thing just with a pulley and not the exhaust pressure..that would be sweetness there, i think i saw one on scott c's build....one of em

according to lc' website u can't combine old style (crown type pistons) block and heads with newer style block and heads w/o extensive modds because of the different deck height and cam height and that 84 and older head. also looks like it would lower the compression too much. The combustion chambers look huge compared to the RTE head I pulled off mine. I'm looking at running a draw through propane on a 22r piston block / head combo. I hear they respond well because of the high octane that propane has. ~105+. Or u can just build a propane setup on a old 22r combo w/ a 20 r head, header, exhaust, and cam. (need the 20r intake and carb base) and be pushing almost as much as the turbo without the additional issues. But then u will have to deal w/emmissions.

dont have to deal with emissions around here...and the killer of building a 20/22r hybrid is i HAD ALLL THAT but my brother n law gave it away but yeah sounds cool, just might suck only being able to fill up during the day... dunno if it would be practical or not for a DD....hermmmm lmao lots more questions now...i can run 2 standard propane tanks and just swap em out wherever like lowes or walgreens....how far would 2 tanks get me?
