Turbo bog/stumble

I have an 86 4runner turbo, when i get on it past 3k rpm it bogs, but if i keep a slow steady increase, it seems to be ok. I read that it could be vaccum leaks causing this. Can someone give me places to look or other solutions?

Did you get your clutch working ? That could be a number of things, does it feel like it is constantly losing and gaining pressure, sort of making a machine gun sound? The guts of the turbo could be fried. It is pretty important to warm those things up before driving and let them cool at idle for a few. Get a garret!

I doubt it's fried especially if just rebuilt. I don't know much about the turbo trucks except the fact that if you don't treat them right you will get a short life out of them, and that they are expensive. At a place I used to work at we had an 86 turbo truck and when the manifold cracked my boss ordered an LC engineering header and downpipe (you'll never guess who talked to him into that lol). It was nice and kept in good shape for the 6 years we drove the truck before we sold it. I don't think there are many companies that make headers for those things.

Oh man, that thing is going to fly at sea level Good luck with your venture Adam! Get youself an edumacation. Definitely look at the LC page for turbo stuff, they know their e!

turbo's............
THERE FUN UNTILL YOU FRY RINGS THIS I KNOW ok first things first take the intake off the turbo(air filter side) check and see if the shaft has play i dont care if it was rebuilt yesturday if thats good get a vac pump and check that waste gate there should be a vac line going from it to boost side of turbo see if she moves and works good then check to see if theres ay van leaks around all the lines a can of wd-40 works best just idle her and spray her down also check the intake gaskets with the 40 spary the injectors down eveything that has a way out since the stocky starts boosting at around 3k ok so if you passed all that hope you didnt cause whats next is going to kill ya disconect the wastgate drive her (WITH A BOOST GAGE INSTALLED DONT GO OVER 12PSI) stop pull over and see if the oil dipstick is up in the air if so then its time for a rebuild my GSX had the same problem turns out the rings were bad but yet still seating dont ask i dont know if thats the problem then get a boost controler and set her for less then stock or just open the wastgate and leave it at that if you really really need to drive it if there any other things just hit me up and we can talk on the phone ill call you if long distance is a problem and ill walk you though it but yet again i know DSM crap but i think its the same princeable here hope this helped you out oh and if you got a blow off valve check that it might be surging

I dont think it's 10 min... just when it's cold dont get into boost.... (dont floor it) and once the temp gauge hits the middle... put the peddle down....
2.5" exhaust would be a perfect size.

I've got a turbo diesel in my Toy and you gotta let the turbos cool down. If you drive them hard on the highway then stop they can be glowing. And stopping cooling to something when it is glowing hot is not good. Don't know how the 22RTE turbo is cooled but the diesel is cooled by the engine oil. When the pump stops the cooling stops. You should let it sit for a few mins when your done driving if you were driving on boost.

There is no requirement to warm it up that long- unless of course you live where it's REALLY cold. I'd say you have a tuning issue at hand.
If it has vacuum leaks, it will spit & pop, esp under boost (a very bad thing). If it's running rich, it will surge on you- but it sounds like you have neither here. It sounds like you need to do an integrity check of your fuel & spark systems. Do you have the ability to monitor your A/F ratio (via you O2 sensor)?
Something as simple as your TPS internal wiper being jacked up can cause this as well... time to check things out.
