Turbo 4Runner oil filter

too many numbers to figure out. Does the 4cyl 22ret turbo use a special oil filter ????? I thought all 4Runners used the same oil filter

Since no seems to be able to answer...including me..you might try going to a local auto store and selecting a non-turbo and a turbo filter for comparison.

I believe they are the same, not 100% sure - check as directed above at the auto store.

The turbo motor simply has a cooling mechanism that screw on to the standard block oil filter port... I'm using a 22RE filter on a 22RTE block, after removing the oil cooler.

Run a PH8A, a bit oversized, but holds at least a quart of more oil

I use a Super Tech ST 16 at wal-mart with a aluminum cooling collar on it as extra insurance. The collar gets hot almost immediately upon starting.

More oil? Yes. A quart or more? No way. I used to handle those filters all the time when I worked at schucks.

BTW, the Turbo and Non-turbo trucks use the exact same filter. In fact, all 22R, 20R, 22RE, 22RTE, 3VZ, and 5VZ engines use the same filter.

They are not the same. But I don't have the part numbers handy.

Avoid Fram filters.

Well, that would be incorrect. Call the dealer, or, hell, look at the filter box.

The filter I have in front of me right now says, and I quote:

ENGINE APPLICATION
-1G series
-VZ series
-22R series (JPN., EUR., USA., CANADA)
-JZ series
-M Series
-3S-GTE (Celica ST 165 only)
-2TZ-FE

Part# 08922-02011 (old part number, I have some old filter stock)

so YES the turbo filter is the same as the NON turbo. Sheesh.

That's interesting. The filter on my 3.0 is smaller than the one on my 22RE. I go to the parts store and the small one is what they give me. Different number and all.

If you into experimenting with filters - I think the 20R/22R blocks used a "ford" sized fitting (aka center threads and O ring diameter)

Its helpful to know when getting a remote filter adapter
(when ya want one that DOESNT use the universal thread adapter thingie and uses PORT connectors not PIPE thread
