Turbo!
Hey I was just wondering if any of you guys have tried turbo's,and whats a good one to buy that is cheaper? Also what are sum performance parts that will ad hp on my 22re??

i dont know if this is true but i heard that the 22RET overheats a lot cause it doesnt have an intercooler? i was just wondering if that was true.. i heard that the other day.

personally, i dont think its worth it to turbo the 22re. Costs a decent bit and you cant exactly make a ton of power out of these engines. I own a turbo 4runner...sure, its faster then a regular 22re, but nothing to call cnn about

I think the main benifits of running a turbo'd 22re is if you make routine trips to higher elevation where the motor can not run so good in the thinner air; the trubo'd motor will run the same no matter what elevation you're at, since it creates it's own air pressure of condenced air at the throttle body

yeah after lowering the compression with different pistons just to run the trubo, what's the HP gain like 10 or 20?

You can make the turbo charged trucks have more power pretty easily though, the stock ct turbo kinda sucks, you can swap them and up the boost a bit and make some more power. You still looking at a sub 200hp setup unless you wana drop a lota cash into her.
Id recommend a header as your first step for power

cam and header are a must, the stock exhuast manifold is so restricted! i have alot of engbldr parts in my truck and it seems great, i have noticed alot more throttle response and power from the cam and other goodies =)

I'm running 33x 12.5 on my truck. Only thing I did was swap the diff's from 4.10's to 4.56's. Tires size went from 225/75 (whatever that size is) to 33's. It runs great, gas mileage is the same as stock, acceleration is the same. I just need fender flares now.

lol, there's no cheap way to get CLOSE to that number out of a 22re!
to put it in prospective, I just spent a little over $2,000 in a full rebuild that consisted of a .30 over bore, new casted high flow head with oversized stainless valves, stiffer valve springs, a bigger cam, 4-1 header and full 2.5" exhaust kit, and gutted all the emmsions junk... and I bet it's MAYBE close to 150-160... on a good tank of fuel...
if you want numbers as high as 200 HP, you might want to consider and look into the option of a motor swap, which if done right, CAN be done cheaper than what I put into my rebuild of my 22re, but can STOMP 200 HP to the ground

if you want a turbo, the 22 or the 3v are awful engines to do it too. 3v are 3.slows for a reason and they will explode instantly as soon as it sees a turbo and the 22 produces less than expected power with all the money spent. get a 2jz-gte <3 those are sexy engines. i have a 92 4runner and an 87 supra and the turbo 7m-ge engines would make a great swap or even a 1jz. both are good for turbos and would far alot better and produce lots of BHP...
