tune-up question, worth it to buy?

It's time for a tune-up but I have some questions about whether some parts are really worth buying.
I spent a lot on iridium plugs and NGK wires last time but I didn't really feel a difference. I'm thinking that the wires may not be so great after all and I'm thinking about going back to stock wires, was hoping to get some advice. The other thing is whether it's really necessary to change the distributor cap and rotor, last time when I did it, the old one still looked perfect, I had a hard time telling the difference between the used and new ones. Am I smart or stupid to leave the iridium plugs in, (should they be good for several more years?), and stick with the current distributor cap and rotor when I switch back to stock wires? hoping to get a reality check one way or another, I want to go with the best and most cost-effective way, thanks

iridium plugs burn hotter than stock plugs. May make the moter run warmer than it should. Ngk/the blue wires, are actually good wires. Some times you can get away with just cleaning the cap and rotor. The biggest thing to look for is wear on the contacts for the cap and rotor. Also look for any carbon tracks, they usually signal a problem with the old tune up parts and should be replaced. You could run the iridium for up to 50,000 miles i think? but i would check them every 15,000m just my opinion.
