I gotta do a tune up soon... I need:

-Spark Plug Wires (165XXX Miles & their still original...)
-Spark Plugs (Cheap ass champions...)
-Cap (Original)
-Rotor (Original)
-Air Filter (Dirty)

I'm thinking about spark plugs & wires and what to get, I'd like to get Denso, NGK, Or Accel.. Anyone got opinions on that? I can't find Denso, OR NGK plugs at Napa, Oreilly's, OR Autozone.. And I need a place to get them.. The Cap & Rotor would be nice if they were NGK also but I have no idea where to get them because no one in my hick ass town has them, so anyone got a link? Also I've gotta change my airfilter, its dirty, I was thinking about putting a K&N filter in it, just cause I go wheeling alot and I hate replacing a paper filter every time, cause they get DIRTY...I'd like to find a plenum for my STOCK carb so I can run a sort of custom routed intake in, but I can't find one.. And I gotta change my oil soon and am debating on swapping to Royal Purple Full Synthetic.. I just am weary of it because I have a few small oil leaks I'm trying to pinpoint, they aren't bad at all because it leaks so little you can hardly tell... So if anyone has any opinions or advice I would gladly take it!-Thanks

I just did all that and I went with Toyota of Dallas to get OEM spark plug wires, distributor cap and rotor. Went with NGK V-power plugs that were available locally at Advance Auto parts.

I'd rather have Denso, NGK, Or Accel, factory items like airfilters, oilfilters, shocks and what not are mass produced and not very quality in my opinion, I may be wrong but does anyone know where I can get all above said items in NGK?

personal favorite is www.partsamerica.com They supply schucks, cragen and I think autozone. You can buy the parts online and pick them up at the local store. Its cheaper to do that then to walk into the same store and pick up the parts off the shelf. The have NGK, I just ordered the whole tune up package, plugs, wires, cap, air filter, and fuel filter, etc from them.

Personally I have used Champion Truck Plugs for the life of my 4runner. That and maybe 1 time used Denso.

Lately, I changed to NGK Irrridiums and I think there is a difference. I get some better fuel economy, and definately have a smoother idle.. Maybe be worth the extra bucks.

As far as plugs go, check your local stores. Sometimes you can snatch up a deal in the paper or something.

I think I may just go ahead and get the K&N Filter, Accel Wires, and Denso plugs, but I still need a cap and rotor, and I DO NOT trust the 5$ for both of those at autozone... And I'm prolly gonna stay with Napa brand dino oil..

One problem, its for an '86 truck 22R.... Your site doesn't have that, or pickups for that matter...

Alright I ordered my Accel Wires, Denso plugs, and K&N filter, & my cap and rotor are totally fine, almost no corrosion, and only a little blackened.. I hope the Accel Wires come with a coil wire also, I needed to ask though, I need the seal that seals between my air filter housing and my carburator mouth, does anyone know where I can find that? Or what its specifically called?

I think the line that the trucks run best with Denso or NGK plugs is just that, a line. I ran Bosch Platinum's in my 94 for a year, and then in my 95 for about 12 years and never had a problem that was plug related at all. In that time I also logged about 300,000 miles with them and the truck ran great. After reading on this site and being told by about 10 different people that the Bosch plugs sucked and was causing all of my problems, I went out and bought a set of NGK V-Grooves and it made no difference at all in any way, shape, or form.

I see you got Densos so I'm sure you'll be fine, but next time don't feel pressured to spend any more than you have to on them. I'm sure just about any old plug will do nicely.

As for me, next tune up I'm going back to the Bosch Platinum's...

Oh and btw, if it was me I would have saved the cash on the K&N and got a factory element, and gotten a new cap and rotor even if it was the Autozone $5 special. K&N's let too much dirt through and don't make any difference at all, and a new cap and rotor usually make a pretty substantial difference even if they're cheap. I did have a bad experience with a cheap cap years ago, so I usually splurge and get a cap from NAPA, but enen then it's pretty cheap.

I agree with you that the cap and rotor ought to be replaced. they are part of a standard tune up and should be done with everything else. I also put a performance air filter on my vehicle and I have decided to go back to stock and do the ISR removal mod. it just didn't make that much of a difference and it's more open to water and puddles splashes which makes me nervous when i off road.

I think I'm going to get the borg warner cap & rotor, i wanted it to be factory colors, cause I'm picky.. Also my cap and rotor are in good shape, so why replace them?
