I'm trying to remove the Intake Manifold on my 87 22r, Hayne's manual said that you don't need to remove the Carb to get it off, but it doesn't look like there's enough room to get in there to get the bolts off. I'd like to avoid removing anything that isn't completely necessary to remove, but I'm not sure how to go about removing the intake manifold bolts. Anybody have any experience in the matter?

Im having the exact same problem with my 22R, i got the bolts off without removing the carb. But the manifold wont budge. there are 6 bolts to remove and 2 nuts all together.

The pattern is, from left to right: 4 bolts on the bottom of the manifold/ 1 bolt on the left and 3 bolts on the right.
And then on the top there are 2 nuts and 2 bolts, from left to right it goes:
1 nut, 1 bolt, 1 bolt, 1 nut

if this was your manifold it would look like this:

nut..bolt.......bolt..nut
...bolt.......bolt..bolt..bolt

the tools i used were just metric wrenches mainly size 12

hope this isn't confusing if you need further clarification please let me know. if you figure out how to get it off please let me know as well.

There is a bolt close to the thermostat housing that takes a allen wrench on the 22re and I think it is the same on the 22r. It has been a while since I have had a 22r a manifold off.

If your taking your manifold off, look at your new intake manifold gasket. It will tell you exactly where all the bolts are to take off. I don't remember an allen head on mine. But that was about a year ago I had it off.

There is a allen wrench bolt there just under the thermostat. It's a 6mm and its a must that you when you put the allen wrench in that you tap it to get a snug fit. If you just place the allen wrench in and expect it to turn it will strip the head because its not all the way in.

Not on a 22R, only 22RE
